Inspiring Conversations with Keith Bolognese of TopComp Homes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keith Bolognese.

Hi Keith, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was on Wall Street for 21 years, formerly with Goldman Sachs. I retired in 2012 and began investing in real estate and flipping homes with my wife Angie who is an interior designer. While flipping homes we saw a way to help that homeowner who we were buying the home from essentially flip their own home instead. We would put up the capital for the homeowner, do the design and remodel and when the home sold the homeowner would pay us back the capital we put up for the updates along with the standard 3% commission acting as their real estate agent. The homeowner would keep all the added profits. That’s how TopComp Homes was born. We felt like we were doing a good thing for the homeowner, allowing them to personally capitalize on their homes true value, the biggest investment of their life, all the while turning it into a business for ourselves. As we have grown, we are now a full service real estate company servicing buyers, sellers, investors and new construction and have a storefront office space at the highly trafficked Scottsdale Quarter. We are a team of 7 growing and looking to hire agents who want to take their career to the next level.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In Arizona, being a real estate agent is as competitive as it comes. There are roughly 75,000 agents in Arizona. So it was tough getting our name out there and having clients like, know and trust us. Especially with a new business model that people needed to get their head around to understand.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was a very good student and was deeply involved in sports. I was and still am a bit shy at first but once I get to know and trust you my real personality comes out which is fun and joking. I played basketball and baseball growing up and eventually focused on baseball and was drafted by the Atlanta Braves. I played in their minor league program for 4 1/2 years before getting injured. I love to read, play golf and spend time with my family and close friends.
