Inspiring Conversations with KD Adams of Watchmen Executive Protection

Today we’d like to introduce you to KD Adams.

Hi KD, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Security has always been within me since I was a kid. My younger brother and I got adopted at a very young age. I can actually remember a time when my biological mother left us to fend for ourselves and as me being the older brother, it instantly hit me that I had to protect and provide for my younger sibling.

When we got adopted, I would wait until my adopted mother came home to ensure she got there safe every night while coming in from church services. Fast-forwarding to high school, two of my friends Roger and Javon presented me with my first security gig which included working the door at their house party and performing basic pat-downs. There it was, the beginning of my career.

I went from house parties to working in numerous adult clubs, which eventually led to working in multiple cities in Arizona. I then started building connections as well as a brand for myself. Thinking back, I would say Club Maya was my favorite because it brought in the most tips and connections versus the other clubs at that time. Then, I went and worked at the famous V-Live which was an adult entertainment bar.

Where I went from working security to becoming the “Money Man”. That’s when my career took off. The ‘Money Man’ held the most important position in the club, but also the most dangerous. There were moments when I’d carry over $10K in ones, all in a suitcase.

But, with the respect and love, I showed people, there was never a time I would come up a dollar short. After V-Live, I took on my first contract for the Kevin Gates show at the pressroom with over 6 thousand people in the building. I had to put together a team of 25 men. While I was the youngest in charge, most of the guys respected my hustle and my grind, without being judged by my age.

Following that gig, my boy ‘Tee The Plug’ threw a show for Blueface the rapper, way before he blew up to be so famous. At the time, there were about 300 people at his show. Blueface ended up becoming my first client. Any time he was in AZ, he would always call me to provide him with security services. It was amazing watching him grow, as well as his audience. My paycheck began to grow as well.

I had hired my boy, ‘Big Marcus’ to join me at the event to ensure Blueface was safe and sound as well. After working with BlueFace, I started to work with some big celebrities in the game. Such as Jacob Latimore, Rotimi, Tee Grizzly, Swale Lee, Big Latto, Ari The Don, Zylan, and so many more. I then created my company name in 2019, ‘Watchmen Executive Protection’.

I didn’t have any knowledge about owning my own company, but I knew I wanted to work for myself and I wanted others to feel confident working with me. My company has had its up and downs. But, through trial and error, we are able to successfully be up and running till this present day and looking forward to many big contracts for the upcoming years 2022 and 2023.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing in life is always easy. I’ve had to overcome a lot of obstacles I’ve faced. From getting my company’s name out there to building connections. Most importantly, securing the connections. I can say, there was a point I really did not understand business.

So, I went to YouTube University and started watching videos and reading books on how to conduct business. Also, researching some of my favorite rappers like 50 Cent, Rick Ross, and Master P. I had looked at each individually and ended up having a different perspective about all three of them.

It motivated me to continue to read and gain more knowledge on how to successfully run and grow my business as well as myself as a businessman.
