Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Furman & Brendan McCarrick
Hi Joe & Brendan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In Late 2021 we opened up as Atomic Comics with the original owner. After a few months of business, we decided that we had different goals, so we went our seperate ways and rebranded to Strange Adventures. Our goals are to offer a diffenrt experience when it comes to comic book retail, we set out to change the industry when we started this. As we open retail store we are alos looking at becoming a publishing house, running large events and conventions and working closely with the other businesses we own that are in the marketing and advertising world. We are currently opening more stores locally and beyond. We haven’t even announced yet where the next two are going to be and what cool surprises we have instore for everyone, we’ll just say that it’s not comicbook related but will pair nicely with our brand.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Retail is always an evolving challenge. We just try our best to offer something that is what we believe to be a cut above the rest. We focus on customer service and building relationships with our customers. Acctually mose of our staff now started as customers, including the new owners haha
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Strange Adventures is rooted in our love for comics, but we have a lot of other passions that we infuse into what we do. We all come from differnt creative worlds and try to include our styles and loves into our spaces. Each time we open a new space we try to learn from the last and make upgrades to everything. We have a couple large expansions coming later this year and next year that will take us into other creative avenues that we havent explored yet but are very excited to.
In regard to “what we’re known for” I think it would be: Open, thoughtful spaces that are welcoming to everyone. We are the nerd shop your mom can shop at with you and not feel intimidated.
What makes you happy?
Shining light on this industry and challenging people to think differntly about it. I spke on the goal of changing the industry, that can only be done by us expanding to more markets, hosting events that push past the norm, publishing books, and continuing to build a strong community of nerds.
