Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Hassett.
Hi Jennifer, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my career as a nanny, working closely with families long-term and seeing firsthand how important trust, longevity, and alignment are in a household role. While nannying, I also worked as a placement coordinator for a friend’s agency, which gave me insight into both sides of the hiring process. When the opportunity arose, I purchased A Perfect Fit Nanny Agency from her and stepped into ownership, refining the process and vision which allowed us substantial growth.
Years later, after starting my own family and hiring a nanny myself, the work came full circle. Experiencing the process from the employer side deepened my understanding and strengthened how I support families today. I am still close with my former nanny family and even spend some holidays with them, which speaks to the lasting relationships that can form when placements are done thoughtfully.
As the agency grew, I began seeing a broader need beyond nanny placements for families seeking household managers, personal assistants, and full domestic staff. That led me to launch my sister company, A Perfect Fit Household Staffing, where we bring the same values, thorough vetting, and personalized approach to more complex household roles. Having worked as a nanny, placement coordinator, employer, and agency owner allows me to create placements that are truly built to last.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a completely smooth road. In the early years, I was a true one-woman show and very hands-on in every part of the business. As the company grew and I entered a new season of life by starting my own family, I had to learn how to let go of control and trust others with work I cared deeply about. That shift was both challenging and necessary, and it pushed me to build a business that could be sustainable long term, not just dependent on me.
One of the greatest outcomes of that transition has been our team. Many of our core team members have been with me for over 6 years, and their dedication, consistency, and shared values are a huge part of why the agency is where it is today. Giving up control allowed space for collaboration, growth, and leadership beyond myself, and I credit our team fully for helping carry the vision forward while maintaining the level of care families and candidates expect.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about A Perfect Fit?
We are a full service nanny and private household staffing agency specializing in long term placements that are built to last. We support families in hiring a wide range of private household staff, from nannies and newborn care specialists to family assistants, household managers, chefs, housekeepers, and other domestic staffing roles, and we tailor each search to the unique needs of the household. Our work is highly personalized, with thoughtful vetting, clear expectations, and hands-on guidance from start to finish.
What sets us apart is perspective and process. I built this company after having been a nanny, a placement coordinator, and a household employer myself, which allows us to support both families and candidates with a deep understanding of what creates a successful working relationship. We work closely with our candidates, taking the time to truly get to know them and intentionally building a trusted local community so we are not just reviewing applications, but placing people we know and stand behind. We are known for our relationship driven approach, honest guidance, and clear communication, with a strong focus on long term fit.
Brand wise, I am most proud of our reputation and longevity. Much of our growth has come through referrals, repeat families, and long standing team relationships, which speaks to the trust we have built over time. I want readers to know that our brand is rooted in respect for private household work, professionalism within domestic staffing, and the belief that when placements are done thoughtfully and with care, they can truly elevate life inside the home.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
We rely on a combination of industry leading organizations and ongoing professional development to guide the way we operate. We are proud members and active leaders within APNA, the Association of Premier Nanny Agencies, which is focused on agency excellence, ethical business practices, and the operational side of domestic staffing. We are also members and leaders within INA, the International Nanny Association, which is centered on professional development and support for nannies and newborn care specialists.
Staying deeply involved in both organizations allows us to remain current on best practices, employment standards, and evolving needs within private households. As part of our commitment to the caregivers we place, we provide all placed nannies with a membership to the International Nanny Association so they have access to continued education, resources, and a supportive professional community.
Beyond industry specific resources, I also value books with leadership focused content that support thoughtful communication, strong boundaries, and sustainable leadership, both as a business owner and a parent. This combination helps shape how we lead our team and how we serve families and candidates with care, professionalism, and integrity. One of my favorite parenting books is The Anxious Generation, which has influenced how I think about childhood, boundaries, and the role adults play in creating healthy environments. On the business side, Leaders Eat Last has been especially impactful in shaping how I build and support our team, reinforcing the importance of trust, consistency, and putting people first. These perspectives carry over into how we lead internally and how we serve families and candidates with care, professionalism, and integrity.
