Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Diaz.
Jennifer, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I knew that I wanted to become an attorney at a very early age. My goal was to help others by being their voice and advocating for them. It has always been my passion to help people navigate through the legal system, as it can be scary and complex for many; it is also my passion to use my voice protect peoples rights, and fight for their rights.
I entered the legal field around 2009 when I began as an intern for a firm. I quickly worked my way up, and my journey in the legal field exposed me to a massive amount of experience and knowledge. I was a case manager and then a hearing legal assistant for a Social Security and Disability law firm for about five years. I also worked for a firm that practiced criminal, civil, and family law for some time.
I began my law school journey in September 2014, and graduated in December 2016. During law school, I worked for a personal injury firm for two years. I helped build that practice, then left to study for the State Bar Exam. I took the February 2017 bar exam and fortunately passed the first time.
I was hired by Alcock & Associates in May of 2017 as an immigration attorney. I worked there from May 2017 to July 2021. I had always been passionate about immigration law, as I am an immigrant myself. I was born in Guatemala and raised in Arizona. I gained a lot of experience throughout my time there as a removal defense attorney, and also gained immense experience in the administrative cases adjudicated by U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS). I loved the work that I did as an immigration attorney and truly felt that I was helping many people; I helped many families reunite or prevented them from being separated. And, I helped many people achieve their American dream of becoming U.S. Citizens, and helped many come out of the shadows by helping them obtain legal status. These are experiences that I hold very close to my heart.
Around August 2021, I moved to Washington for about one year, where I was the head immigration attorney for two offices in a firm there. I helped the firm’s immigration department in both offices grow. I also mentored paralegals and assistants, and helped many people with their immigration cases in WA. This journey taught me a lot and helped me grow as a professional, as an attorney, and as a leader.
On August 2022, I returned to Arizona to be close to family and continued to expand my knowledge and career in both immigration law and personal injury law. Personal Injury law has always interested me, as it is an area where I can also make a difference and help others who are in a vulnerable situation and going through tough times. Being injured in an accident caused by someone else’s negligence, or worse, losing a loved one because of it, can be a very traumatic experience. My goal is to relieve some of that stress and burden by helping my clients and families who have lost a loved one, navigate through the legal system and help them in every step of the way so that they can get just compensation for their injuries, and get the treatment necessary to heal their injuries and rehabilitate them. My passion is to be their voice, to advocate for my clients, and prevent anyone from being taken advantage of while they are going through such a difficult and vulnerable situation.
Currently, I am the practicing attorney here in Arizona for 10xlaw.com. I practice personal injury for the firm. It is truly an honor to work for such a great company and people. Our priority is our clients. We offer free consultations and I make sure I make myself accessible to my clients, they all have my cell phone number. At 10xlaw.com, we believe it is extremely important that our clients receive the best service possible, and that they have direct access to their attorney. Our paralegals and staff are amazing, but clients also always have the option to contact me directly. I want my clients to always feel and know that they are a priority to me, and treated as family.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Sounds very cliche, but nothing worth having will be easy. The road has not always been smooth. I have faced challenges both in my personal life and career life along the way. However, I have always believed in not giving up, in fact, that is my motto. And I believe that “where there is a will, there is a way.”
Thus, instead of letting those trials and struggles define me and my career, I used them as fuel to help me keep going and to achieve all of my goals. I always faced those struggles head-on for my clients and for my family. There is nothing that I want more than to truly help people and make some kind of impact in their lives, even if it is a small one.
As you know, we’re big fans of 10xlaw.com. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At 10xlaw.com, our sole area of practice is personal injury law. We represent people all over the valley that have been injured in accidents such as motor vehicle accidents, slip & falls, pedestrian accidents, truck and motorcycle accidents, ride share accidents, dog bites and wrongful death claims.
At 10xlaw.com, we understand the importance of people having direct access to their attorney, therefore as previously mentioned, clients have my direct phone number. 1
We have amazing paralegals and staff who are also there to help, but I make sure I do my best to be accessible to my clients. I want them to know they are important to me, my priority, and are treated as family. Every client deserves to receive the best service. They are already going through such a difficult and vulnerable situation, as such, I want to relieve some of that stress by being their voice and advocating for them with the insurance companies so that they can focus on what is most important, which is their their healing and rehabilitation. I will fight so that they receive just compensation for their injuries, and will assure they receive the treatment they need for their injuries.
We offer free consultations and we only get paid if our client wins. We also offer consultations in Spanish and Portuguese.
I am an AZ local, but the firm is new to the valley. We are so excited to continue to grow, and in that growth, to be able to help many people that have been wrongfully injured.
Networking and finding a mentor can have a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I believe that networking, and especially finding a mentor, is extremely important. I met my mentor, Cody Fullmer, when I started my career as an immigration attorney. We both worked for the same firm at the time, he had been working there for a few years prior to me starting. He truly took me under his wing, and was always very willing to answer any questions I had. I learned a great deal about immigration law from him, and I am grateful that he gave me that mentorship. He now has his own firm where he continues to help people through their immigration process.
Having had that experience, really inspired me to want to mentor others in the future. I love being able to help others reach their full potential, to motivate them, guide them, and help them however I can to achieve their dreams. I enjoyed training my assistants in WA in immigration law, and I actually mentored a young lady through the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce from approximately September 2021 to December 2021. It was truly the best experience, and hope I can continue to do so for others in the future.
I would recommend taking networking opportunities. Go to the events and meet people. Tell people what you do and what you are passionate about, and you will be surprised how many people are willing to support you in your business, career, etc. Do not be afraid to put yourself out there, I promise that it will be worth it.
Finally, I would also recommend joining networking and/or business groups such as BNI or a Chamber of Commerce. Reach out to people on social media with similar backgrounds, careers, platforms, etc. You never know how much you might be able to help each other! Most times, we are one step away and one person away from life changing opportunities!
