Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Weiner.
Hi Jason, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Before anything else, I’m a family man. In my professional life, I’m an audio engineer, educator, and photographer. I’ve always been drawn to working with talented people who are passionate about creating and adding something positive to the world around them.
I grew up just outside of Washington, D.C., where I spent much of my youth working in my family’s video store. It was there that I learned the value of hard work and what it takes to run a business from the ground up.
In 1997, I received a music scholarship for vocal performance and attended Radford University from 1997 to 2001. I initially majored in music business but ultimately graduated with a degree in advanced audio production technology. After college, I pursued life as a professional musician—touring, recording my own music, and collaborating with many talented artists.
I met my wife, Sarah, in 2002, and we had our first child in 2005. That pivotal moment led me to deepen my expertise in audio engineering, prompting a move to Arizona to complete the Master Recording Program at the Conservatory of Recording Arts & Sciences. After graduating, I completed an internship in Los Angeles, which launched my career as an audio engineer and eventually led me to start my own company, Crowded Head Industries, in 2012—a business I still operate today.
In 2015, my family and I moved to Athens, Georgia, where we purchased a recording studio and music school. It was there that I discovered a passion for teaching—especially working with kids and helping them perform in bands. In 2018, we returned to Arizona, and I began teaching at the Conservatory of Recording Arts & Sciences. Not long after, Sarah and I decided to open a School of Rock in Queen Creek.
Working alongside my wife and watching young musicians grow—both musically and personally—has become the most rewarding part of my professional journey.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have always believed that I learn so much more from mistakes than the wins. If you treat the losses as opportunities to grow, they will always make you stronger.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Crowded Head Industries/Crowded Head Music?
In 2012, I founded Crowded Head Industries, a digital asset management firm serving the entertainment industry. Since its inception, we’ve worked with some of the most influential names in the business, including Universal Music Group, Disney, and Epitaph Records—helping to streamline digital workflows and protect creative assets in an evolving media landscape.
Earlier in my career, I collaborated with The Recording Academy Producers & Engineers Wing, Sony Music, Universal Music Group, and other major labels on the Content Creator Data project. Funded by the Library of Congress through the NDIIPP program, the initiative focused on standardizing metadata collection and recorded music master delivery—an effort aimed at ensuring proper crediting and fair compensation for musicians, producers, and engineers.
I’ve been fortunate to work alongside some of the most innovative and talented individuals in the entertainment industry. Over the years, I’ve had the unique privilege of collaborating with many of the artists whose posters once covered my bedroom walls—and the legendary producers who helped bring their creative visions to life.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I am looking forward to the exciting changes that are coming with the introduction of all the new technology in the music industry. However, at the same time, I am also seeing a significant trend where many musicians are expressing a strong desire to return to a more fundamental, raw, and unpolished sound, characterized by the energy of loud, Rock & Roll where musicians can connect and create music together in the same room.
