Inspiring Conversations with Janna Taylor of Daffodil

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janna Taylor.

Janna Taylor

Hi Janna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I have always been an entrepreneur at heart. The genesis of what Daffodil is today was really just a magical combination of that entrepreneurial streak, a passion for creating/making and being entranced by the concept of carefree statement accessories. I’m a busy, working mama who just wants to be unique in my style while being comfy in my sweatshirts, you know? In Daffodil’s case, the business aspect of things followed the art, and that’s what makes this such a rewarding investment of my time and energy. I hope my daughters grow up to reminisce on their mama who was always creating something magical (and I hope they feel inspired and fully able to do that too!).

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think self-doubt has been my biggest obstacle so far. It’s so easy to second-guess the creative path you’re going down (“Will this really resonate with people?”). I’ve scrapped a few creations in moments of self-doubt only to wish I hadn’t the very next day. We’re in an immediate-feedback type of world today, and that can be very abrasive for anyone who has created something for others to experience.

As you know, we’re big fans of Daffodil. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
Daffodil carries unique nature-inspired jewelry, accessories, and small goods. As the artist and maker behind Daffodil, I take inspiration from the beauty and rawness of the Sonoran Desert to craft earthy, neutral, feminine, and edgy earrings and other wearable art primarily from polymer clay. I dabble in felting and other handcrafts and brings that artful exploration into my popups around town. I create jewelry, accessories, and small goods and sell them through Daffodil. My style is natural, neutral, and earthy. You won’t find many colors or designs in my work that you can’t find in nature. I draw inspiration constantly from the beauty and depth of the desert around us, and that translates into different but cohesive forms, which shows in my work.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Just do it. Learn as much as you can, be as scrappy as you can, and go for it. It’s scary, but lean in. Ask questions of others who have done it before or who are doing it too. Chances are, if you’re creating something that you desire or need, there are others out there who also desire or need it too. Hustle, babe!
