Today we’d like to introduce you to Iliya Sapundzhiev.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I come from a small town called Petrich in Bulgaria. It’s a place where people work hard, value family, and learn early that nothing is handed to you. Growing up there, I always dreamed about building something of my own — something meaningful. More than anything, I wanted to help people.
Life eventually brought me to the United States with big dreams and very little certainty. I worked, learned, observed, and waited for the right opportunity. When that opportunity came, all it really took was passion, consistency… and every dollar I had.
Starting Productive Towing wasn’t comfortable. It wasn’t backed by investors or a safety net. It was built on belief. I remember having around $300 left in my bank account — and a company. That’s it. No backup plan. When you reach that point, things get real. You either make it work, or you don’t. There is no other option.
That pressure shaped me. It forced discipline, long nights, and relentless focus. But more importantly, it reinforced why I started: trust. In an industry where people often feel vulnerable — broken down on the side of the road, stressed, late, stranded — I wanted to be the company that shows up when it says it will. If I promise 10 minutes, I aim to be there in 9.
Productive Towing is more than moving vehicles. It’s about reliability. It’s about family values. It’s about being locally owned and built on trust. Every call is someone depending on us in a difficult moment. That responsibility means everything to me.
Today, I’m proud of how far we’ve come — but I’m even more proud of how we built it. From a small town in Bulgaria to building a trusted towing company in Arizona, the journey has been fueled by resilience, faith, and the willingness to bet on myself when there was no safety net.
And we’re just getting started.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road — and the road still isn’t fully paved. There were days when the phone didn’t ring. Days when there was no work. Those are the moments when you start questioning everything. You wonder if you made the right decision, if you’ll make it, or if you pushed too far.
Starting a towing company with no safety net means the pressure is constant. You’re managing expenses, equipment, fuel, insurance — and at the same time, you’re handling real life. Family responsibilities don’t pause just because business is slow. There were moments when I had to navigate personal challenges while still showing up professionally for customers who depended on me.
But those seasons taught me resilience. They taught me patience. They forced me to grow as a leader and as a man. When you don’t have another option, you find a way. You improve. You stay consistent. You build relationships. You protect your reputation.
The slow days didn’t break us — they built us. And every obstacle made Productive Towing stronger, more disciplined, and more intentional about how we serve our community.
We’re still growing. There are still challenges. But now I understand that the struggle is part of the process — and that’s what makes the success meaningful.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Productive Towing LLC?
Productive Towing LLC is a locally owned, family-operated towing company based in Surprise, Arizona. We specialize in light-duty, medium-duty towing, equipment transport, classic and collector vehicle transport, and emergency roadside assistance. Our focus isn’t just moving vehicles — it’s showing up for people during stressful moments.
What sets us apart is reliability. In an industry where long wait times are common, we built our brand on keeping our word. If we say we’ll be there in 10 minutes, we aim to arrive in 9. Trust and response time are not marketing slogans for us — they’re standards.
We also take pride in handling specialty vehicles with extra care, including classic and collector cars. Attention to detail matters. Customers trust us with vehicles that often have sentimental and financial value, and we treat every job with professionalism and respect.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud that Productive Towing has grown through consistency, word of mouth, and reputation. We didn’t build this company on shortcuts. We built it on discipline, service, and community trust.
At the end of the day, Productive Towing isn’t just about towing — it’s about being dependable when someone needs help the most.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is family and integrity.
Family is the reason I take risks, work long hours, and push through difficult seasons. Everything I build is bigger than just business — it’s about creating stability, setting an example, and leaving something meaningful behind.
Integrity matters because in both life and business, your word is everything. Especially in my industry, people call when they’re stressed or vulnerable. If you say you’re coming, you show up. If you give a price, you honor it. Reputation is built in small moments of honesty.
At the end of the day, success isn’t measured only in growth — it’s measured in trust, character, and the example you leave for your children and your community.
