Inspiring Conversations with Ileen Villa Golden of The Villlago Agency

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ileen Villa Golden

Hi Ileen, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
From Viral Success to Entrepreneurial Inspiration: My Journey as a Social Media Agency Founder

In 2020, amidst the rise of TikTok, my journey as the founder of a social media agency began. At the time, my family was facing financial challenges—my parents owned a struggling party rental business that was barely making ends meet. Their business taught me so much about life, responsibility, and perseverance. I was in the middle of my college career and already knew that entrepreneurship was in my future—I just didn’t know how to get started. One day, I stumbled upon a TikTok video that mentioned social media management as a career. The idea intrigued me, and I thought, Why not test it out to see if it could help my parents’ business grow?

What fascinated me most about TikTok was how creators used their platforms to share behind-the-scenes moments of their businesses in creative ways. Inspired, I decided to do the same for my parents’ party rental business, creating engaging Reels and consistent content for an industry not typically seen as “popular.” It took a couple of tries—and some failures—but I didn’t give up. Then, it happened: one of my videos went viral, reaching 8 million accounts. My parents’ business transformed almost overnight, going from struggling to thriving, to the point where they were nearly too busy.
That moment changed everything for me. If I could achieve this for my parents, I knew I could help other businesses too. I’ve always been fascinated by the idea that if you can think it, you can do it. To this day, it amazes me that this little dream I had has turned into my full-time career and business.

Building my agency wasn’t easy. At first, it was a side hustle while I worked a full-time job. I juggled long hours, creating content and managing clients on the side. But every new challenge fueled my passion for social media management. Eventually, I reached a point where I knew I had to fully commit. I took the leap, leaving the security of a full-time job to focus 100% on growing my business.

Over the past four years, I’ve worked with more than 20 brands across Arizona, providing social media management and content creation rooted in strong analytics, storytelling, and consistency for growth across platforms.
What I’m most proud of, though, is not giving up. I didn’t take a traditional path to success. As a college dropout, I understand the stigma attached to leaving school. But I knew college wasn’t for me. Growing up in West Phoenix, a community where opportunities often feel out of reach, I didn’t have role models who shared my background or circumstances. So, I became my own example.

My journey isn’t just about building a business; it’s about proving that success can come from determination, creativity, and breaking barriers. I want to inspire others—especially young girls from low-income communities like mine—to believe in their potential. Your story doesn’t have to follow someone else’s script. Dropping out of college wasn’t the end for me; it was the beginning of a journey to carve my own path—one that’s both professional and unapologetically creative.
Today, I’m proud to run a thriving social media agency, helping businesses tell their stories in authentic, impactful ways. My mission is not only to help brands grow but to show others that with persistence and creativity, they can build their own dreams—no matter where they come from or what challenges they face.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been an easy road. Transitioning from working a 9-to-5 job to building my own business was a huge adjustment. I had to quickly learn how to navigate the fast-paced world of social media while growing into the role of a businesswoman. Suddenly, I was responsible for making every decision, setting goals, and ensuring my clients received exceptional results. It was a challenge, but it also pushed me to grow in ways I never expected.

Being a first-generation entrepreneur added another layer of difficulty. Starting a business with zero idea how to begin—especially in an industry I was only somewhat familiar with—was intimidating. I took a huge leap of faith because, truthfully, I didn’t fully know what I was getting myself into. It wasn’t easy, but I was determined to figure it out one step at a time.

One of the hardest challenges for me was creating my portfolio from scratch. Starting with no experience and no network in the social media industry, I had to figure out how to build trust with clients while learning and improving along the way. I didn’t know many people who had this career, so in many ways, I was carving out a path and creating the career as I went. It took time to find the right people to work with—people who understood my vision and shared my commitment to helping businesses grow.

Another challenge has been learning how to negotiate as a young woman, especially in male-dominated industries. Early on, I often underestimated my worth, but I’ve learned to confidently stand my ground and advocate for the value I bring.

What keeps me going is my faith and the belief that every day is a new chance to be better. But more than anything, what drives me is my father’s legacy. My dad passed away when I was very young, and what was left were stories about how he made people feel—uplifted, inspired, and amazing. That legacy of impact and connection is what fuels me every day. It’s the foundation of everything I do, and it’s the legacy I am living.

Business is as much mental as it is practical. I had to learn how to embrace failure—something I wasn’t used to before—and understand that setbacks are a natural part of the process. Entrepreneurship isn’t a straight line; it’s a very bumpy road with plenty of ups and downs.

This journey has pushed me to grow in ways I never imagined, and while it hasn’t been smooth, every challenge has shaped me into the resilient and determined business owner I am today.
