Today we’d like to introduce you to Darlene Ziebell.
Hi Darlene, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Darlene Ziebell is a veteran serial entrepreneur, CEO, management consultant, and author. She purchased her first business over 30 years ago and learned to create her consulting methods from a unique blend of large enterprise strategies and the battle scars she acquired in four entrepreneurial endeavors. She personally experienced startups, mergers, ESOPs, acquisitions, IPO, partnerships, liquidations, and lawsuits.
She achieved high-level sales figures that placed her in the top 3% of successful female entrepreneurs four times. One of her many endeavors was a business management consulting startup that grew to eight figures with a client base representing 20% of the Fortune 1000.
She currently consults with entrepreneurs offering management services. Acting as their CO-CEO, she prepares them to predict confrontations, provides insight for planning and growth, and steps for increased profitability.
In the United States, 85% of all small businesses fail before their fifth anniversary. Darlene has beat those odds four times.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There are 12 many struggles I faced throughout my entrepreneurial career. My business book, “A Dozen Avalanches Threaten Small Business, Which One Will Bury You Alive,” discusses these challenges, how to predict them and how to prepare for them in advance.
These include employee issues, credit card processing, social media defamation, and slander, inept professional advice, government lawsuits, poor financial advice, inability to raise capital, partnership problems, banking obstacles, inadequate insurance coverage, lack of presentation planning and exit strategies.
I discuss all these challenges, how to predict and prepare for them in my webinar and training series. As small business owners grow to seven and eight-figure levels, all will face several challenges that are inevitable. There are way too many obstacles to discuss in a magazine article. Each challenge would need its own story.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Darlene Ziebell?

Getting the right mentor. I was very fortunate my first mentor was very experienced in the exact business I purchased. today, I advise all entrepreneurs searching for Masterminds, mentors, networking, and personal business coaches to ask, “Where have you owned a business like this before or where have you experienced the same issues before?”
In this business, I listened to another mentor whose suggestions resulted in a reduction of my profitability. Fortunately, my experienced mentor came to the rescue caught the problem before it was too late, and prevented me from losing the business.
