Inspiring Conversations with Chris Fill of Fire Fuel SEO

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Fill.

Hi Chris, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Before I ever thought about running an SEO agency, I was deep in the world of call center telemarketing. Back then, marketing was all about hustle, long hours, phone scripts, and call lists that seemed endless. It was competitive, direct, and measurable. But as time went on, two things started to change, the rising cost of telemarketing staff and the tightening of Do Not Call registry laws. What had once been a thriving model was slowly becoming unsustainable.

That turning point forced me to look for a smarter, more scalable way to reach people. That’s when I discovered search engine optimization (SEO) in early 2008 and it completely changed the direction of my career.

I took what I knew about sales and customer intent from telemarketing and applied it to search. The goal was the same, connect people with what they needed, but the method was entirely different. Instead of cold calls, I learned to make businesses findable.

In those early years, Google Places (the early version of Google Business Profiles) became a powerful tool for local visibility. I saw an opportunity to partner with major national brands and partner with them to generate more local glass leads using their existing locations.

Through strategic partnerships with companies like Jiffy Lube, Fletcher Tire & Auto, and Advance Goodyear, (to only name a few) we created a revenue-share model that allowed them to sell more auto glass through their locations. We handled the online marketing, SEO, and phone systems, they provided the storefronts.

Before long, we had built a network of over 120 strategic locations across Arizona, each optimized for search and supported by a custom lead management and phone routing system we developed in-house. It was one of the first times I realized how far digital strategy could go when paired with solid partnerships.

Years later, I met Jordan Fernandez at an SEO conference. Jordan, who’s now 32, had started out as a freelance content writer, building up his skills before launching his first digital agency, Dynamic SEO. We hit it off quickly. Even though I was a bit further along in my career, we shared the same passion for helping businesses grow the right way, through strategy, transparency, and a focus on real results.

Over time, our collaboration turned into a partnership. Jordan was looking to rebrand Dynamic SEO, and we decided to combine our experience and energy into something new. That’s how Fire Fuel SEO was born, a name that represents both of our approaches to growth, strategic, sustainable, and bold.

Today, Fire Fuel SEO helps companies across the professional & home service industries scale their visibility and reach, but our work doesn’t stop at client projects. In 2024, I joined Arizona Tech Investors to get more involved in the state’s startup scene. That led to the opportunity to mentor for Venture Madness 2025, supporting emerging founders and helping them navigate the challenges of early-stage growth.

Jordan and I also stay deeply connected to our communities. I live in Tempe, where I am an active member of the Tempe Chamber of Commerce, while Jordan continues to grow our Tucson presence. Together, we’re focused on helping Arizona businesses thrive online and off and contributing to the ecosystem that helps us to continue to shape our own journeys.

Looking back, it’s been quite a ride, from telemarketing calls to search rankings, from partnerships in auto glass to mentoring tech founders. But through it all, one lesson has stayed the same, if you stay curious, adaptable, and rooted in helping others succeed, the growth will follow.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not. It’s been a journey full of lessons, challenges, and a lot of personal growth. Early on, I had a partnership that went sideways, and that experience really taught me the importance of alignment, not just in business goals, but in values and trust. The world of marketing and advertising can be a pretty noisy room, and figuring out who to trust, what advice to follow, and how to stay focused on the long game hasn’t always been easy.
As a founder, one of the biggest challenges is learning how to keep yourself motivated while also motivating others. During my time in the glass business, I was fortunate to have a really strong team around me. They were instrumental in helping us build that network of over 120 strategic locations and make the whole thing work. That experience showed me just how critical the right people are, you can have the best systems, the best marketing, but it’s the team that makes everything click.

Now, with Fire Fuel SEO, we’re still assembling and growing that same kind of foundation with building a team that believes in what we’re doing and is passionate about helping businesses grow the right way. It’s not always smooth, but I’ve learned that with belief, perseverance, and the right people beside you, the tough parts end up being the most rewarding parts.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Fire Fuel SEO ?
At Fire Fuel SEO, we’re a team of data-driven problem solvers who approach every project with one goal in mind, clarity through strategy. When we take on a new client, we follow a three-part process, Discovery, Diagnostic, and Blueprint Implementation. This framework helps us deeply understand the client’s business, identify what’s working and what isn’t, and create a custom roadmap for growth. By the time we’re done, both we and the client know exactly what needs to be done, what results to expect, and how the investment will generate a return.

We specialize in search marketing and brand due diligence optimization, which in simple terms, means we make sure your brand shows up correctly and consistently wherever your audience is looking for you. Our job is to make sure your digital identity actually makes sense to the customers you’re trying to reach.

I always use this analogy… imagine you owned a ranch that bred and sold Mustang horses, but every time someone searched for your business online, they only saw results for Ford Mustangs. You’d have a hard time staying in business, right? Our job is to make sure that never happens, to ensure your brand is clearly defined, properly structured, and easily found in search by the people who actually need what you offer.

What really sets us apart, though, is our perspective. I spent nearly two decades on the service side of business before Fire Fuel, I’ve lived the challenges our clients face. I know what it’s like to juggle growth, operations, and marketing all at once. That experience allows us to see things from our clients’ point of view, not just as marketers, but as business owners who’ve been there before.

We like to say our motto loud and clear: “We’re finally the SEO agency you can trust.” We work with business builders, the people serious about growing something real. And if you’re serious about building, we’re serious about partnering with you to make it happen.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Absolutely. I’ve learned that mentors are everywhere, you just have to be willing to look for them and, more importantly, ask. The best advice I can give is to find the people in your community, or even online, who are actually doing the things you want to do. Look for those who align with your goals, values, and where you ultimately want to be, and then have the courage to reach out.

You’d be surprised how many people are genuinely flattered when someone asks for their guidance. Most successful people remember what it was like to be in your shoes, and they’re more than willing to share what they’ve learned. I’ve found that when you approach others with respect, curiosity, and gratitude, not just looking for what they can do for you, but truly wanting to learn, people tend to open up in incredible ways.
