Today we’d like to introduce you to Andi Coffee.
Hi Andi , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
All of my life, I dreamed of being a professional dancer. I trained for 14 years, taking extensive dance classes and dedicating everything I had to that goal. When I was 20 years old, I was told to pack my bags because I was going to dance professionally in Las Vegas. Just a few days later, I was told I was too short—I’m 5’2.
I was devastated. Dancing wasn’t just a dream; it was my entire identity. Pursuing a different career had never even crossed my mind. That moment completely changed the direction of my life.
What ultimately led me to nutrition was the passion I had always had for maintaining my physique for my dance career. I decided to enroll in college and began working toward my bachelor’s degree in nutrition. It was a science-based degree, and I quickly realized I didn’t have the academic foundation I needed to succeed. So I hired a tutor, spent countless hours studying, and pushed myself harder than I ever had before—and I earned my degree.
After graduating, I took some time away from work because I had my son during my final year of school. When he was about five years old, I returned to the workforce and spent four years working as a bariatric nutritionist. During that time, I was also in a very unhappy marriage that eventually ended in divorce.
While I was still in that marriage, I became certified as a Health and Wellness Coach and began working in nutrition and coaching at a local insurance company. Advancing my education was not supported in my marriage, so one of the very first things I did after my divorce was enroll in a master’s program in nutrition with a focus on functional medicine. I earned this degree 2019.
From there, I went on to become a Certified Nutrition Specialist—a credential similar to a Registered Dietitian, just through a different pathway. I then became licensed as a nutritionist in Maryland and Florida (Arizona does not license nutritionists). Finally, in 2020, I earned a second master’s degree in counseling.
What started as a heartbreak over a dream I lost ultimately became the foundation for a career built on resilience, science, and a deep desire to help others reclaim their health and their lives.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I grew up very poor, and my mother was in a domestically abusive relationship until I was about eight years old. Finding grit and resilience didn’t come easily—it was forged through hardship. My path was far from smooth. I worked throughout college, unexpectedly became pregnant, and was navigating a very troubled marriage. At the same time, I was managing my own health challenges while caring for my mother as her health declined. There were countless moments when quitting would have been the easier choice—but quitting was never truly an option for me.
As you know, we’re big fans of Balanced Holistic Nutrition. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Balanced Holistic Nutrition is a functional nutrition practice focused on getting to the root cause of health concerns rather than managing symptoms alone. We work with clients both in person in Anthem, Arizona, and via telehealth across multiple states. We are in-network with most major commercial insurance plans, making high-quality, evidence-based nutrition care accessible to more people.
What do you do? What do you specialize in / what are you known for?
We specialize in complex and resistant health concerns—especially cases where people have “tried everything” and still aren’t seeing results. Our providers are Certified Nutrition Specialists (CNS), which means we are trained at a graduate level in clinical and functional nutrition, advanced biochemistry, and evidence-based therapeutic nutrition.
We are particularly well-versed in:
Hormone and thyroid dysfunction
Insulin resistance and metabolic health
Digestive and gut disorders
Autoimmune and inflammatory conditions
Weight loss resistance
Chronic fatigue and stress-related conditions
Our work is lab-guided, personalized, and rooted in physiology—not trends or quick fixes.
What sets you apart from others?
What truly sets us apart is the depth of clinical training our providers have combined with our commitment to root-cause care. We don’t hand out generic meal plans or rely on one-size-fits-all approaches. Every recommendation is individualized and based on a client’s labs, history, lifestyle, and goals.
We also bridge the gap between conventional and functional care. Being in-network with most commercial insurance plans allows us to collaborate within the healthcare system while still practicing at a high functional level—something that is rare in nutrition.
What are you most proud of, brand-wise?
I am most proud of the trust our clients place in us—many come to us after years of feeling unheard or dismissed. Brand-wise, I’m proud that Balanced Holistic Nutrition has built a reputation for being thorough, ethical, science-driven, and compassionate. We don’t overpromise, and we don’t oversimplify health.
What do you want our readers to know about your brand, offerings, and services?
I want readers to know that nutrition can be powerful when it’s done correctly and individualized. Balanced Holistic Nutrition offers in-person nutrition counseling in Anthem, AZ, as well as insurance-based and private-pay telehealth services, functional lab interpretation, group programs, and ongoing support designed to create sustainable, long-term change.
Most importantly, we help people understand why their body is doing what it’s doing—and how to support it in a way that actually works.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
Most certainly my husband, Chris, who has been my biggest supporter from the very beginning. He believes in me even in the moments when I doubt myself, and his constant encouragement, patience, and belief in my vision have been foundational to both my personal growth and the success of the business.
I’m also incredibly grateful for my amazing team—my nutritionists, billing team, and administrative assistant. Each of them plays a critical role in what we do every day. Their dedication, professionalism, and shared commitment to our clients allow the practice to function at a high level while still maintaining compassion and integrity. I truly could not do this work without them.
And finally, our patients deserve immense credit. They trust us with their health, often after long and frustrating journeys, and that trust is something I never take lightly. Their resilience and willingness to show up and do the work continually inspire me and reinforce why this business exists.
