Inspiring Conversations with Alyssa Probert of Point North Wellness and Coaching

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Probert.

Hi Alyssa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my career in the mental health field, supporting people through some of the most challenging points in their lives. Over time, I realized that while therapy was incredibly meaningful, many people were also craving guidance that was more forward-focused—something that could help them set goals, take action, and create the life they wanted outside of just managing challenges. That realization sparked my interest in coaching.

With nearly a decade of experience helping people navigate transitions, build coping skills, and discover their strengths, I saw coaching as a natural extension of the work I was already passionate about. I founded Point North Wellness and Coaching with the intention of providing people with a safe, supportive space to get clear on their goals and actually move toward them.

What’s gotten me here today has been a mix of professional experience, personal growth, and my genuine belief that everyone deserves the tools and encouragement to find their own direction in life and give them tangible skills to move forward and make the progress they desire. Coaching allows me to combine my background in counseling with a practical, action-oriented approach, and that blend is what I feel makes my work so impactful.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Shifting into coaching after years in the mental health field came with its own challenges. One of the biggest struggles was stepping out of the mindset of being a therapist and really leaning into a coaching role, which is more forward-focused and action-driven. I had to learn how to draw those boundaries clearly and educate people on the difference.

Another challenge was the process of building a new business from the ground up. Coaching doesn’t come with the same structure or systems that therapy often does, so I had to get comfortable wearing many hats—marketing, networking, building community relationships, and learning how to present myself in a different space.

At the same time, I think those struggles have been valuable. They pushed me to grow, to clarify my vision, and to get creative about how I connect with clients. Each challenge has helped me shape Point North Wellness and Coaching into what it is today—a space that’s authentic, supportive, and grounded in real experience.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Point North Wellness and Coaching’s mission is focused on helping people get clear on where they want to go and supporting them in taking the steps to actually get there. I work with individuals who feel stuck—whether that’s in their personal life, career, or relationships—and help them create balance, build confidence, and set realistic, meaningful goals.

What sets Point North Wellness and Coaching apart is the mix of compassion and structure I bring. With my background in counseling, I really understand the challenges people face on a deeper level, but as a coach, I focus on moving forward—creating a roadmap, setting goals, and celebrating progress along the way. It’s not just about talking through struggles; it’s about turning conversations into action and walking with clients as they move toward their version of success.

I meet with clients one-on-one, either virtually or in person, and tailor the coaching process to each person. Coaching isn’t one size fits all, and I’m proud that my clients feel truly seen, supported, and empowered in their journey.

Brand-wise, what I’m most proud of is the authenticity behind Point North Wellness and Coaching. The name itself represents finding your direction and purpose—even when life feels uncertain or overwhelming. And for me, authenticity also means creating a space that’s affirming and inclusive, especially for those in the LGBTQ+ community.

I always want people to know that coaching isn’t only for those who feel stuck or are facing challenges. It’s just as much for anyone who’s ready to grow, to make shifts, and to step into a new chapter of life with more clarity and confidence. That’s really the heart of what Point North Wellness and Coaching is all about.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My biggest advice for anyone just starting out is to give yourself permission to start imperfectly. It’s easy to get caught up in thinking everything has to be polished before you launch, but growth really happens through the process. You’ll learn so much more by taking action than by waiting until everything feels “ready.” Another piece of advice is to lean into your authenticity. People connect with you—not just your business plan, not just your services. The more you show up as yourself, the more aligned your clients and opportunities will be.

Something I wish I knew when I was starting out is that it’s okay to not have it all figured out. There’s a lot of trial and error in building a business, and that’s not a sign of failure—it’s part of the journey. Every challenge ends up shaping your brand and your approach in ways that make it stronger. Don’t be afraid to ask for support and build community. Whether that’s through networking, mentorship, or even just bouncing ideas off trusted people, you don’t have to do it all alone.
