Today we’d like to introduce you to Tavia Gura.
Hi Tavia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Tavia has lived a life of discovery, adventure, and personal growth, including living on the island of Kauai as a teenager and watching her stepmother excel as a director at Boeing in Phoenix. These experiences demonstrated that anything was possible, including breaking the glass ceilings of success and opening her eyes to the beauty and uniqueness of the planet.
In 2007, Tavia began her nursing career as an LPN, working in pediatric and geriatric services. These experiences only deepened her commitment to medically fragile patients, leading her to obtain her RN license in 2008 and her BSN from Grand Canyon University in 2022. Over the years, she worked in nursing-supported group homes providing definitive care for developmentally disabled kids, which began a deep love and commitment for these underserved children.
Through working at other group homes, she learned how to serve these children and gained a deep understanding of the operational requirements and standards of care needed to improve their quality of life and sense of home. This journey into entrepreneurship, in partnership with her brother, Chris, and stepmother, Julie, took years of work, applications, and business development, ultimately culminating in the opening of Trinity Pediatric Heathcare in 2022.
For nearly 4 years, Tavia and her team of skilled nurses have improved children’s outcomes by providing a home environment that helps them grow stronger and more independent. With the help of her world-class Nurse Manager, Jenna, and 15 dedicated employees, Tavia has realized her dream of doing something she loves, with the people she loves.
Starting in 2022, Tavia also reconnected with her love of travel and exploration, which would take her overland across Sub-Saharan Africa in 2023 and then across Eastern Europe from Greece to the far reaches of the United Kingdom at John o’ Groats in Scotland. This travel passion then shifted from four wheels to two, when she purchased her first motorcycle in 2025 and, a few months later, her second (a BMW adventure bike). The motorcycles have become her meditation, taking her from north to south across the United States. The adventures are just beginning.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As a single mother of two, Tavia overcame the extreme challenges of caring and providing for her children while also obtaining additional certifications and a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Against all odds, she achieved those goals and pushed even further to start Trinity Pediatric Healthcare, obtain funding, secure licenses, and ultimately open the doors after nearly six years of hard work- she never gave up.
Every day, a new set of challenges presents itself, making team development so important. This included a partnership with her brother, an accountant and can-do leader who supports most of the business’s administrative and facilities objectives. Her stepmother brought decades of leadership experience and investment acumen to help fund the facility and start-up phase.
The most important objective is the care of children, which requires skilled, compassionate professionals to provide 24-hour care and love. Because of this, the hiring process is challenging, requiring constant recruitment and a strict selection criteria. Once Tavia hires a new team member, the real work begins, including exhaustive on-the-job training, certification, and standards of care.
As you know, we’re big fans of Trinity Pediatric Healthcare. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Trinity Pediatric Healthcare is a division of We Care Hospitality, an Arizona Limited Liability Company that is 50% woman-owned and operated.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
As with any significant endeavor, it requires commitment, sacrifice, and a lot of help. Tavia has spent a lifetime overcoming personal and professional challenges, which made her uniquely capable of achieving her dreams. In life, we get to pick our “hard”, so why not make that difficulty something worthwhile that gives back to society and achieves our personal goals as well? Tavia’s life has become a legacy of care, professionalism, and philanthropy, inspiring women and future generations to give back to their communities and make the world a better place than we found it.
