Hidden Gems: Meet Suzanne Chilton of Foot Guru Reflexology

Today we’d like to introduce you to Suzanne Chilton.

Hi Suzanne, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
As a child, I was happily consumed by the arts – anything from painting to pottery to music and acting. It was an escape and a way to focus my energy on my favorite thing, creation & connection. I have always been highly sensitive, and connecting to creativity has always allowed me to feel a sense of belonging, joy, and peace, work through tough times and grow confidence. This led to pursuing my dream of becoming a professional actor in theatre and film as a young adult – thinking this identity would serve me for the rest of my life. Until I met my husband, he was diagnosed with advanced colorectal cancer a year into our relationship. As I cared for him, I realized a deeper purpose to help people heal with more natural and holistic approaches after seeing some of the chronic side effects he experienced from conventional medical treatments. Navigating this experience forever changed how we looked at our health and happiness and wanted to shape our lives.

My priorities shifted, and I honed in on bodywork, excited that I could use my artistic hands to help people. Reflexology ticked all the boxes, allowing me to dive deeper into the amazingness of the human body. It’s capacity to self-heal, to merge anatomy with energy work, and since it was still considered relatively ‘new’ in the Western world, I could support clients in new ways. With a busy toddler, I started with my mobile practice offering in-home relaxation and rejuvenation to other mothers who could use a moment of balance and sanity for themselves. Over time, I realized people worldwide could benefit from reflexology, and I expanded into offering foot maps, tutorials, and courses online for beginners and professionals.

It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Venturing into something completely new and starting a business hasn’t been a smooth ride (is it ever?!), but it has been fun! When I started, my family was skeptical. But I thrive as an entrepreneur as I’m very self-motivated, like to move to the beat of my drum, and am futuristic – I can see the big picture of what I’m trying to build and work towards. Going at my own pace and trusting my intuition has been the best for me. I’ve been able to use a lot of what I learned in the acting world, as you’re constantly being rejected and have to get back on the horse and try again. Business is just trial and error until it “works,” so I find my ability to keep going and try new things to be the most helpful. That said, dealing with continued health challenges with my husband takes work. We have learned to live in the present most of the time, which has been helpful and frustrating (since I am the futuristic one!). I’m also a doer – of everything – so learning to involve others in my “business baby” and outsource is something I’m working on to grow. Owning your own business, like parenthood, means you must grow and evolve to succeed, whether you like it or not!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Foot Guru Reflexology?
Foot Guru Reflexology is a mobile in-home practice specializing in women and children in North Vancouver, BC, Canada, and online education. I provide an opportunity for everyday people to learn how to support and heal themselves with reflexology tutorials, foot maps, online courses for beginners, and professional training for health and wellness practitioners. I’m known for my magic hands and gentle, relaxing style – combining classical reflexology with energy and meridian work to create a balanced and healing session for every client. Pain relief is also a specialty in the body and feet (plantar fasciitis etc.). Online, people are drawn to my simple-to-follow teaching style that makes reflexology accessible to them and their loved ones. I’m most proud of building my business and brand authentically that stays true to helping people heal and spreading love and light. I’m grateful to be able to share this ancient healing modality with the masses. We need it now more than ever.

What’s next?
I’m excited to launch more mini-courses soon, focusing on stress, sleep, and digestion support. I plan to branch out into foot care & reflexology products, so stay tuned! Down the line, there will be a book too! Lots to cover, so little time, lol!
