Hidden Gems: Meet Spenser Robinson of Black Business Mine Publishing House

Today we’d like to introduce you to Spenser Robinson.

Spenser Robinson

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
My story starts with creating music and finding an independent route to publishing my music, which transformed into wanting to express my creativity a little, and coding/ design became the perfect avenue. I’ve always been an entrepreneur spirit, selling candy as a kid, writing poetry, and selling boxes of candy roses for Valentine’s Day in high school, accompanied by a custom poem by myself. So, my passion has always been in independent creative expression. That being said, I began web design about 15 years ago and made it a dedication to improve my skills and grow from a freelancer into a full-fledged company with our design platform for fellow creatives to develop their ideas. My goal has always been to help be an uplifter to the creative people of the world, and assisting them in structuring their businesses online has been the perfect platform for my skills to thrive. I founded Black Business Mine as a mine for content from people doing the work. We offer digital marketing, web development courses, resources, and services like graphic design and web design. Almost 5 years ago, I joined forces with another Web Developer to form Millionaire Web Services, our Premium Cloud Hosting Platform built to enable the millionaire mindset to thrive.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to a self-sustaining business has been challenging and has taken sacrificing some time and fun to elevate my business to the level I see it. The most difficult part is staying confident during the slow times; I’ve learned so much from the struggles of freelancing that I take into my work with every client. Building a business that relies on something other than outside capital is another challenge, mainly when serving an unnoticed demographic; we must focus more and be open to new revenue streams and ways to increase the company’s value. The challenges have been worth it, though.

Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your business.
As a freelancer, I learned a lot of nuance in the web development space, adding to my skills by learning new code from Java, PHP, and HTML to Node.Js; adding those languages to my writing background gave me the ammunition to build clients and grow my expertise over the years. I’ve been a constant student, always seeking ways to build my certifications and qualifications. I’ve taken a nontraditional route, but that focus has propelled me into more diverse and open-ended spaces, allowing me to gather new information from all walks of life. I help businesses and non-profits grow operations with seamless design and development principles. I believe I’ve been most proud of my work in the community. I offer my design service to local non-profits that can grow their reach in the community without worrying about some development needs. I believe this has been my major purpose: to invest back into my community by offering ways to help change the mentality about business ownership and facilitate resources that help do the same. At BBM Publishing House, we offer digital marketing courses and ebooks on a wide variety of digital business solutions, and we also created our Web Service Mastery Course that helps to inform our clients about certain web development tasks they can do themselves or how to find the right person to outsource certain services.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
About 4 years ago, I joined forces with a fellow Web Developer and formed our entity, Millionaire Web Services, which has been a driving force in the growth of our business. Seydou has been an ideal partner because he understands elements of Web Design that I don’t, and I am a bit more versed in some areas than he is, so our balance has helped us withstand and build our company. Having someone to bounce ideas off and build on other ideas has been a major factor that I wouldn’t change.
