Hidden Gems: Meet Shayna Hallas of Arthur’s Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shayna Hallas.

Hi Shayna, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my business at Arthur’s Pet Supply in January 2020. The entire business plan was emotionally driven and destined to fail. I had lost my dog, Arthur, traumatically in surgery on Thanksgiving, and I was an emotional wreck with little-to-no support from my 9-5 job when I expressed how my mental health was being affected. I thought, “If they don’t care about me, I’ll create my own company.”

Arthur’s Pet Supply launched on January 1st, 2020, after only 1 short month of going into business planning, financing, website design, contracts, suppliers, etc. I think I made it until April, when I had to put the whole thing on hold because I was putting in way more than I was making, there was little to no engagement no matter how many ads I published, and I didn’t know who my targeted audience was.

I decided to revamp in September 2020 but didn’t re-launch my company until July 2022. I rebranded to Arthur’s Co, changed what I was selling, discovered my audience, and decided who my ideal customers were. Since our launch in July 2022, we’ve had over 1,900 engagements, 50 sales, which is a 300% increase from our previous business plan in a short time.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would be lying if I said the road to where I am now was smooth. I went through thousands of dollars and hours of frustration, and all this without assistance from a business partner was challenging. I learned that even when you’re discouraged, you must keep going.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Arthur’s Co.?
We sell something for every personality encompassing ethical pet keeping. We have tons of hand-designed clothing such as T-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, tank tops, etc., and toys and accessories for your fur babies like tennis balls, water bottles, seatbelts, etc. We also love to support other non-profit organizations and run events from time to time where all of our profits go toward a good cause you choose from our website, including humane societies, planting trees, etc. Arthur’s Co. is a one-person business. I run everything from the website design to customer service, sometimes with some help from my husband. Something that sets me apart from others is that I’m not in the business of earning a quick buck and moving on to the next customer. I sincerely enjoy building and engaging with an audience to help educate on ethical pet care and learn something new from my customers. My favorite way to engage with my audience is on Instagram and my Blog page.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Every time you give up, you’re throwing away your success story. Keep going!
