Hidden Gems: Meet Scott Drummond of Showcase Mobile Detailing Solutions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Drummond.

Hi Scott, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started this business back in 2007 but I’ve actually been detailing cars since about 1979. When i was 8, My dad was at outside sales rep in Connecticut with a sales car and one day he was polishing it and he showed me how to do that and something stuck with me and I literally polished anything that was painted, my bike our lawn mower, all my friends bikes in the neighborhood. When I went to high school a college I bought a buffer and would drive around to dealerships to see if they needed any cars detailed. And then in 2007 I had enough of working in the corporate world I was an outside sales rep for Federal Express in Long Island New York for 10 years and then I was an outside sales rep for a litigation support company in Phoenix and I just wanted to go out on my own and start my own business so I bought a trailer put some logos on it and started selling. I slowly grew it from me a truck and a trailer to three mobile units that go out to customers every day and a full-time shop in gilbert. I believe for the highest rated detailing company in Arizona on yelp. We are also highly rated on Google. I really do enjoy detailing cars, I don’t know it’s just something that stuck with me back when I was a kid and now I am doing it for a living as an adult. It has its drawbacks. Employees are very difficult to find especially nowadays and the competition keeps getting younger and younger, also the younger generation is charging really low rates to get their foot in the door and it’s hard to compete with that.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Well when you first start out the first struggle is getting customers and business to pay your salary at least and then to be able to afford a shop. Some of the major obstacles throughout the years have been trying to find quality employees that seems to be very difficult. The pandemic really messed things up quite a bit for my business. It’s slowed down quite tremendously and we have not yet picked up back to pre-pandemic numbers. Also nowadays everything is online and you’ve got these young kids who are really good on Tick Tock and Instagram with the marketing but they just don’t have the experience nor do they have the proper insurance or equipment to perform a complete interior and exterior detail.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We offer full detailing services and ceramic coating Services throughout phoenix. We’ve been in business since 2007. We are very highly rated on Yelp and Google.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Obviously customers who use me regularly have been fantastic. I’ve got a bunch of regulars that use me either weekly or monthly and they’ve been very supportive not only with getting their own Vehicles detail but referring me to other customers. My family has been tremendous throughout this whole entire process. They listen to me when times are good and also when times are stressful. Without the fam I probably would not be able to do this.
