Hidden Gems: Meet Russell Baum of Clear path acupuncture and microneedling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Russell Baum.

Hi Russell, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My interest in the medical field began with my father who practiced as a D.O. until he retired about 8 years ago. Growing up I was always fascinated by his work and the miracle that is the human body. Early on I would read his anatomy textbooks and in particular I enjoyed studying Leonardo Da Vinci’s drawings of the human form which my father had a wonderful book on. Later in my adolescence I became interested in Asian martial arts and that led to an interest in Asian healing arts as well. Although my father was trained in western medicine he was very supportive of this interest and encouraged me to take a look at the Chinese medicine school in Santa Fe, New Mexico where we lived. At that time I had been suffering some low back pain from a martial arts injury which I had aggravated helping a friend move so I went to the acupuncture school clinic for a treatment. My results were so impressive that I felt my curiosity about this ancient medical art bloom! I talked to the dean of the school and began my studies a short time later! The rest is history as they say! I’ve been practicing acupuncture and Asian medicine in some form ever since. Over thirty five years later and there is still so much to learn! I have learned many specialties over the years and some have stuck with me more than others. I spent much of my career practicing in Santa Fe, but last June I decided I wanted to be closer to family here in Arizona so I made the move. Currently I practice in Scottsdale with a group of talented wellness practitioners at Aria wellness. My focus these days is on digestive health, allergies, facial rejuvenation via microneedling, relieving pain conditions, autoimmune diseases, and general wellness. Some of the tools in my practice include a computerized biofeedback system which measures the body’s electrical signals and provides information about the body’s state of health and functionality or lack there of. This can be helpful in determining immune problems such as allergies or sensitivities as well as the functional ability of the organs and energy meridians. I also use a professional microneedling pen which is a modern device to allow facial treatments to be more comfortable due to the high rpm operation of the device (over 12,000 rpm). Many herbal serums I use can greatly enhance the facial absorption when used topically with the microneedling pen. I continue to use traditional Chinese medicine in my practice as well along side these other treatment methods as well as independently when the need arises. I believe real wellness comes from a collaborative approach and have strived to surround myself with talented and caring practitioners who feel as strongly about helping people achieve their highest state of wellbeing as I do!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think the biggest challenge for me has been running the business side of things and marketing. I have always felt those are the biggest hurdles.
The other thing would be just winning over people who are still skeptical of alternatives to western medicine.

What were you like growing up?
