Hidden Gems: Meet Ria of Rise Up Recover, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ria.

Hi Ria, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I completed my Masters in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis on Marriage and Family Therapy at Pepperdine University in California and moved to Arizona to start working in the field. Working for different agencies I gained experience and discovered I had passion for people struggling with trauma and addiction issues. I spent several years working with young adults in different levels of care including inpatient, Residential, detox, and outpatient facilities u til starting my private practice Rise Up Recover in Goodyear, AZ. I completed several trauma training and started working on my PsyD in Psychology. During this time I was married and we started a family which inspired me to complete and publish a book, Happiness is an InsideJob Playbook, a workbook developed from a course I had created for my clients to help regulate their nervous systems, lower stress, and expand on joy in their lives.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has had many twists and turns along the way. I expanded my business to run workshops right before Covid and had to Close one of my offices and start doing Telehealth as I became pregnant with my second child. Business became so busy I expanded again hiring counselors and supervising them, opening a second office. Currently I see clients, run a small group practice and run workshops focusing on recovery from trauma and addiction issues. I am currently focused on raising my children and open to the next adventure my career takes me. I have always been raised to be of service and developed a genuine passion for helping others feeling blessed to do this work. Carving out light in dark places can at times feel miraculous, spiritual, and inspiring. There are also days where it feels like heavy lifting, digging in the dark, paperwork overload, late insurance payments, client relapses, and these days remind me that I am not my career, it is just a thing I do. I always give 100% but the rest is out of my control. I do my best to have balance recently getting certified in Yin Yoga. I am interested in going further in my somatic coaching work to develop a series of yin poses and somatic breath work to move out stored trauma in the body for my clients and this may be the foundation of my second book or course. The struggles are often financial trying to balance business and supporting a family while completing more education, I have to pause my doctoral studies all the time as the world keeps shifting to just focus on making ends meet.

We’ve been impressed with Rise Up Recover, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I specialize in treating adult clients with trauma and addiction issues in person and Telehealth settings as a Licenced independent addictions counselor, LIAC with specialized trauma training in Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, Post Induction Therapy, Internal Family Systems, cognitive processing Therapy (CPT), Motivational Interviewing.
I walk clients through intensive workshops to help them reduce carried shame, and let go of past belief systems that keep them stuck in mal-adaptive patterns and behaviors, creating space and freedom to create the life they are passionate about. I also specialize in betrayal trauma and process addictions that are the new generation of suffering and disconnection from self and others.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I have learned that I am never done learning, and that humility keeps me curious and open to the next chapter of education. I also stay open to the possibility that the next chapter could look much different and that is okay too. I may end up teaching, writing, and producing again in a different way than I did in my Hollywood days. All the experiences have taught me and shaped me and I have found a place of gratitude for the hard and the wonderful days.
