Today we’d like to introduce you to Ramsey Bergeron.
Hi Ramsey, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I had a successful personal training business for 15 years and loved helping people feel healthier and do things they never thought possible. The majority of that job was coaching. Everyone knows they need to eat better and move more, but the real challenge was helping them figure out why they couldn’t.
But deep down, I always knew I was meant to help people in a more substantial way. My life was taken in a new direction when my best friend passed away in 2020. Like many of us, he struggled with the reality of isolation during COVID-19 and drank himself into a coma, ultimately losing his life. His death was a stark reminder that we never know when our time is up.
If he could lose his life at 42 years old, then what the hell am I doing with mine? I returned to school to become a certified Leadership and Well-Being Dynamics Coach and motivational speaker. In 4 years, my message has impacted over 100,000 people, and I published my first book, Cake on the Floor: How to Navigate Life’s Unexpected Moments with Resilience and Grace, earlier this year.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I couldn’t begin to help other people until I did the work on myself. Already a firm believer in the power of therapy, I incorporated several modalities to do the inner work. I blew up my whole life, getting divorced and stopping my personal training business, all within a year of losing my best friend. I did a 10-day silent Vipassana meditation and faced a lot of unresolved trauma I had neglected for decades.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Bergeron’s Well-Being?
I founded Bergeron Well-Being to help other people take control of their lives and stop living on autopilot. I do this through keynotes, workshops, coaching, online courses, and my podcast, Break Your Ego Find Your Soul. I help people find their purpose and realize that life isn’t about what happens to us; it’s how we choose to respond.
I also have an assessment I administer called the Energy Leadership Index, developed by iPEC (The Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching), which shows people how their energy shifts when they encounter stress. Companies utilize it because when I average the results of their employees, it shows them their corporate culture and how engaged the team is.
What sets me apart from others is my personal journey and commitment to holistic well-being. When I was 12, my father died from diabetes after neglecting his health for years. Witnessing his decline firsthand, I understood the dire consequences of not prioritizing health and fitness.
I also fought my own battles with weight and health, and through this journey, I developed the tools to reclaim my life and achieve things I never thought possible. I realized we are not prisoners of our genetics or our past, and I vowed to live my life to the fullest, ensuring others could do the same.
But finding this freedom came at a price. My approach to well-being was flawed for a large part of my life. I obsessively used athletics and physical fitness to find meaning, but it was never enough. In 2019, while in Ireland for an Ironman triathlon, I pulled my car over to the side of a country road and had a revelation that changed my life forever: I was only as good as my last accomplishment, and no finish line, movie role, client, or sponsorship would ever be fulfilling. I broke my ego and found my soul.
That, coupled with losing my best friend in 2020, has helped me learn to be the change I seek and lead by example. I guide my clients with the understanding that holistic well-being is essential to living a profoundly meaningful life. I am most proud of my brand for reigniting my passion for serving others, helping them find clarity in an overwhelming world, and showing them that the freedom they seek is within them all along.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I tell a story about a wedding I was at over a decade ago. The bride went to cut the cake, but the venue didn’t lock the legs of the cake table out, and the 5-tier cake fell all over the floor. All the guests stared at the bride, waiting for her to freak out, but instead, she laughed, and it became the night’s highlight. That was the inspiration for the title of my book.
I now say, “There is always cake on the floor.” Cake on the floor is a divorce. Cake on the floor is losing your job. Cake on the floor is a flat tire on the way to work. The quality of your life is not based on what happens to you. It’s based on how you respond. At the end of your life, you will have left a legacy. Your ability to respond instead of react will determine if you leave a legacy by design or by default.
