Hidden Gems: Meet Nicole & Hannah Limo & DeSanto of Goodness Candles

Hi Nicole & Hannah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
One day I (Nicole) was scrambling around the apartment looking for another candle to light and realized I ran out. I thought about how great it would be to have a candle delivered to my door every month like a subscription. I LOVED that idea and thought, “Why don’t I just start something like that?”. I took this idea to Hannah because she is one of the smartest and most motivated people I have ever met. We had dinner and I brought the idea to her and she loved it as much I did. That Sunday we met up at a coffee shop and got to work. We did our research on supplies, the best wax, scents, wicks, and jars. We had to look into how to establish a business and get the finances together. It was a lot of information, but we were determined.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Starting a business! Hannah and I had NO experience how to start a business or how to make candles. We researched everything. We had many trial and errors with candle wax and candle scents. We went through multiple burn test until we found the perfect one. Also, we had to create this business in the middle of the pandemic. Because of the pandemic it was difficult to get supplies mailed to us. The pandemic made everything delay and we just had to work with what we had- so we got creative!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We sell all natural 100% soy wax candles. We offer monthly candle subscriptions!

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
The pandemic gave Hannah and I a lot of time to create this candle business as we had to work from home for a while. We quarantined together in order to continue to create this business and make it grow. We are constantly learning new things every day and now know how much it takes to create a business. I majored in public health and had absolutely no business experience or knowledge. Hannah majored in economics and also had no idea what it took. We both grew and learned together and found new skills.
