Hidden Gems: Meet Mimi Bascom of On-Trend Social

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mimi Bascom.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It was the summer of 2020. I had just graduated from BYU in Provo, Utah and was living through what seemed like a never-ending health crisis. Although I was comfortable in my corporate social media role, I had the desire to finally pursue my dream of starting my own social media marketing business.

So, I did it! In August of 2020, On-Trend Social was born. The first few months were slow as I spent time building my website, setting standard operating procedures, and determining my pricing, but in a few short months, I had signed multiple clients for social media management and didn’t have enough time in the day to get everything done! By the beginning of 2021, I had the amazing opportunity to bring my younger sister on to my team to assist with copywriting and admin tasks. It has been a dream come true being able to work with her and help her pay her way through school.

Today, I’m happy and thriving in my business! Last month, I launched my On-Trend Subscription services to help my clients stay on-trend with their social media content to reach new audiences and make more sales through social. It has been so fulfilling to see my clients’ pages grow and increase their revenue from Instagram – an app that I downloaded “just for fun” in Jr. high. It has been a long journey, but I could not be more glad that I took that leap last summer. It was a time full of unknowns, but I kept pursuing the next best thing, and it landed me in my dream job.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the biggest challenges was taking the leap! My father owned his own small business when I was growing up, and he always told me how grateful he was to work for himself. Although I wanted to enjoy those same freedoms, it was difficult for me to give up the security of my constant paycheck.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about On-Trend Social?
On-Trend Social is a social media marketing and consulting business that strives to help our clients stay on-trend in their social media content so they can reach new audiences and make more sales online. We specialize in organic content strategies and offer social media management, content creation and consulting. We also recently launched our On-Trend Subscription Services – a newsletter that delivers trends and content ideas to your inbox every week and a monthly newsletter that keeps you up-to-date with social media platform updates, news, and best practices.

While working with clients to define a strategy, we always think about ROI first. There is definitely value in building an online following and designing a beautiful aesthetic, but we help brands do more. We discuss business objectives and work to drive website traffic and sales while experimenting with new, fun, and trendy ways to present their message.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along my journey is to be your own biggest advocate. I realized that I had knowledge and experience in a field that many people were interested in learning about (social media), and even though I’m young, people are willing to pay me to share that knowledge. I have had to fight through impostor syndrome through the beginning of my career, but once you realize the value that you possess, you can serve your clients to the best of your ability.
