Hidden Gems: Meet McKay and Dianna Christensen of McKay and Dianna Film

Today we’d like to introduce you to McKay and Dianna Christensen.

Hi McKay and Dianna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We started out of necessity. The pandemic hit us hard, and we knew it would be even harder for us when we started back at ASU. Because McKay had 7 years of experience doing video work, both commercially and as a hobby, we decided to see if we could make it work as wedding videographers. Around the time we decided to start this, McKay’s cousin was getting married and asked if we could film it. We invested a few hundred dollars into the bare minimum equipment we needed, and made the video. The results were amazing and we proved to ourselves that we could make this work. We expanded our arsenal of cameras and equipment and booked as many weddings as we could, and now we’re here, filming multiple weddings/events each month and loving it.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. Neither of us has ever started a business before, so we were completely in the dark when it came to that side of things. During the first few months it was also pretty hard to find clients. We were practically handing out wedding videos for free just so we could get our name out there. On top of all of that, McKay was really the only one with video experience before we started the business, so everything I know and have learned has been from him, or from experience. At the beginning, it was hard learning during the most important days of peoples’ lives (although McKay prepared both of us as best he could before each shoot), and for McKay it was hard working with someone with less experience/teaching during the pivotal moments of each wedding. Somehow it all worked out, and there isn’t a project we’ve taken on that we aren’t extremely proud of.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about McKay and Dianna Film?
We’re a husband and wife videography team. We specialize in wedding/event videography, but we do some other stylized video shoots as well. We’d like to think what sets us apart is the quality of our work, and the prices we charge for it. We take pride in every video we shoot, and we try not to charge out the wazoo for it. When we got married, we didn’t have the foresight or budget to hire our own videographers, and we’ve regretted it since. We strive to give other couples the video that we’ve never had, for the right price. We work closely with the bride and groom and make sure we can meet their needs. Because we are a husband and wife team, we’re able to film all moments of a wedding that a couple would be comfortable with; like Dianna filming a bride getting ready, and McKay filming the groom. We’re proud of every video we make, but we’re most proud that we’re able to capture the moments of a day that goes by at a million miles an hour for brides and grooms, and deliver a video that they can look back on for the years to come.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
As long as it’s legal, and we have the equipment to achieve it, we’ll try anything a client wants. We’ve had couples ask us to get shots from under chairs, above dance floors, and even a quick bridal session at Chick-fil-A. We love trying new things with clients.
