Hidden Gems: Meet Matt Seymour of Orange Door Painting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Seymour

Hi Matt, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have been in the trades for years, but have been primarily painting for 10 plus years now. As a residential and commercail painter things can get very repetitive and boring, especially if you bore easily, like I do. My friend in TX introduced me to VeroMetal, a kind of liquid metal product, about 2 years ago. I have always been an artist of sorts, and Vero has introduced me to a new medium, where where possibilities are practically endless. I have been blazing a new path through the Phoenix coatings market ever since.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth? No. There is a seemingly endless learning curve, which makes mastery almost impossible, However,, the learning from mistakes, correcting, adjusting, and improving is what keeps my interest and grows my love for this craft.

One of the most challenging parts has been that I am the first in the Phoenix market to offer VeroMetal, so no one knew about it. I have worked countless hours emailing, and DM’ing every Interior Designer, builder, and architect I could find. I have traveled to other states to broaden our reach and get the word out. I’ve spent so much time making hundreds of samples for people to see and touch.

Orange Door is a full service residential and commercial painting company. I head the specialty side of OD, and we offer some incredible finishes. VeroMetal is by far the most exciting product that I work with, giving me the ability to transform nearly anything into a living metal veneer. Every project is different and a work of art. That product, VeroMetal, definitely sets us apart from all the other painting companies in Arizona.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was born and raised on a dairy farm in Bainbridge, New York, a very small town about 175 miles North West of NYC. I was always very artistic, and loved to create and build. You could find me in the shop on the farm building things to fit my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toys, or getting into mischief as a young boy does.

Growing up in a small town I couldnt wait to leave and go to a bigger city, and now all I want is to go back. I suppose thats how life works, you always want to get back to your roots.
