Today we’d like to introduce you to Marki Nichols.
Hi Marki, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always liked baking shows, especially ones involving cakes and cookies. A little over a year ago, I started watching cookie decorating videos on Instagram and fell in love! I’ve always enjoyed crafty and artsy things and thought to myself. I bet I could do this! I endlessly searched for ways to learn and found a place in Gilbert that did classes similar to those paint and wine classes. I IMMEDIATELY fell in love and I kind of had a knack for it. After that, I practiced for weeks and weeks, giving cookies to friends, bringing them to birthdays and events. I received a lot of positive feedback and questions about when I was going to start my own business. Then quarantine hit and I thought WHY NOT. So I dove right in and haven’t looked back! Instagram and Facebook have been my best friends marketing-wise. Plus I have some really awesome people in my life who’ve given my name to various farmers markets and businesses and I really haven’t looked back. It’s been an amazing journey!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s actually been fairly smooth. The only thing I’ve struggled with is my own fear! Without the support and push of my friends and family, I probably wouldn’t have had the confidence to start.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Cactus Flower Cookie Co?
I specialize in custom sugar cookies. Events are what I love to do most, like birthdays, baby showers, graduations, weddings, corporate events. I’d say my attention to detail sets me apart from others. I love to personalize and make each cookie unique to every client. I’m most proud of my ability to make each set a little different every time. I don’t like to do the same sets twice! Girly cookies definitely have my heart. The more glitter and flowers, the better!
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I think what’s most important to my success is my ability to fit my creation to each client’s personality. I don’t like to do generic designs. I want them to be fun and to bring a smile to each customer’s face.
