Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirsten Holmstedt.
Hi Kirsten, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my career in Corporate America for a large multinational corporation and technology company and obtained my MBA while working full-time. While enjoying a two-month sabbatical at my corporate job, I fell in love with the process of decorating a new home my husband and I had purchased.
A passion I always had came to light and with the help of a lawyer friend, the formation of Treasure in the Detail came to be. I left my corporate job 8 months later and have never looked back. I credit my business background and those experiences for helping lay the foundation of a solid, successful business.
Treasure in the Detail started off small, with me running it solo for the first few years. After about 3 years, I hired my first employee. We are now a team of 6+ and are servicing large-scale projects across the Valley in addition to running a studio and retail shop in Gilbert, Arizona.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It is often said that “Pressure creates Diamonds and Fire refines Gold.” This couldn’t be truer, especially in the life of an entrepreneur. We often fight the roller coaster ride, hoping for only the “ups,” but in reality, the only way to continuously improve and become better each day is to ride the occasional “downs,” to learn from them, and truly embrace them.
I think one of the biggest struggles for me is living a healthy balance. I have always been a hard-working achiever, and when you are running something that you created and greatly depends on you, it’s very hard to turn it off. Finding my passion and getting to live it every day is such a gift, but it can sometimes become a curse if I don’t allow for proper balance in both my health and family life.
While I can confidently say hard work and grit have paid off, I have also learned that it is crucial to keep evolving as a leader in order for the business to continue to grow and evolve. What my business may have required in the early years has shifted to new demands and has required me to bend and stretch in different capacities. Learning how to be an effective leader for my team and my company has been one of the most challenging experiences but also the most rewarding.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Treasure in the Detail?
Treasure in the Detail is a modern, boutique interior design firm specializing in full-service design and furnishings. The design aesthetic focuses on clean lines, carefully curated finishes, and combining high-end style with casual luxury. The team’s aspirations are to design unique, functional spaces that the homeowner will cherish for years to come.
Since the company’s inception, we have grown into a team of strong and talented women in various positions and have achieved over $1M in revenues. The firm has developed to offer an array of services, including full-service furnishings, large-scale renovation design, and custom new build design. Our firm has been featured and published on many national platforms, including HGTV, Business of Home, Living Spaces, Click Magazine, Phoenix Home & Garden, and ICONIC Magazine, to name a few.
We launched our online home décor shop in 2020 and opened the brick-and-mortar furnishings store 2 years later. Our team recently won the People’s Choice Award as part of the Facings of America and Design for Dog Competition in support of raising money for the Arizona Animal Welfare League.
Any big plans?
Over the next several years, the goals are to continue to develop our team – both to grow in size and in the strength of skills and careers, expand design services beyond Arizona, and continue to help the community by launching a nonprofit to help those in need make their homes more special.
I would also love to pursue launching a multi-purpose space designed in our aesthetic that would inspire community gatherings, a place to shop, an outlet to offer design services, food, drinks, and more!
