Hidden Gems: Meet Kelly Williams of Restorative Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Williams

Hi Kelly, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hi, I’m Kelly Williams, the owner of Restorative Fitness. As a certified corrective exercise specialist, I’ve spent over 12 years helping people improve their posture, flexibility, balance, and joint movement.

I’m passionate about corrective exercise because I’ve seen firsthand how it transforms lives. Watching my clients gain energy, confidence, and a renewed sense of well-being is truly inspiring. But my journey into joint and muscle health didn’t start with a love for exercise—it actually began in graduate school while I was pursuing a completely different path.

The stress of graduate school pushed me to find a healthy outlet, so I became a certified group fitness instructor as a way to balance my time and health. It didn’t take long before I fell in love with teaching fitness, and collecting fitness certifications became my favorite hobby.

After I finished grad school, I continued teaching fitness at local colleges while job hunting. One day, a student approached me after class and shared how my workouts had helped her overcome a diabetes diagnosis. I was floored. My “fun” side gig o teaching fitness had actually made a profound impact on someone’s health. That’s when I realized how powerful fitness can be.

So, I shifted gears. I stopped job searching and became a certified personal trainer and health coach. From that point on, I knew I wanted to help people change their lives through health and exercise education.

Fast forward six years—I had worked my way up to an associate director role at a corporate wellness company. On paper, it looked like I was living the dream, but I was burnt-out. I had deviated from my passion of exercise education, so I dove back into fitness education. But, it wasn’t until I discovered corrective exercise that I found my true calling.

Corrective exercise helps people move better, experience less joint pain, and live more active, fulfilling lives. It reignited my passion and became the core of my business.

Today, I’m focused on helping people move, feel, and live better every day through corrective exercise—and I’m grateful for the opportunity to make a lasting difference in my clients lives.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not, but I think it’s par for the course in entrepreneurship.

Starting and running your own business comes with its unique challenges. As a business owner, you’re responsible for everything—from managing day-to-day operations to planning long-term growth. It can be overwhelming, especially when you’re wearing many hats. But it also offers independence and control, allowing you to create your own work environment and pursue your passion on your terms.

On the flip side, working for a corporation comes with its own difficulties. You may have more structure, stability, and resources, but there’s often less control over the direction of your work and the decisions that impact you.

Both paths have their trade-offs. Neither is easier or harder, just different. So, choose your “hard.”

If I had to pinpoint the bumpiest part of my journey, it would be getting started. In my case, I didn’t have the most supportive network—something I only realized after I had already committed to my dream. Starting a business is risky, and for those who’ve never done it, even the ones who love you, that risk can seem overwhelming. In their own way, they tried to discourage me from taking the leap, and it was heartbreaking. I was trying to build my dream job, but not a single person in my network was cheering me on—some even directly discouraged me.

It was a tough but valuable lesson in knowing myself deeply. I had to dig into my passion and trust my intuition to move past those objections and keep pushing forward.

If you’re thinking about starting your own business, take a good look at your network. Will they really support you? If not, be selective about who you share your plans with. Find those people that think your gift is valuable to this world and bring those people in. I’m in your corner—you can do this! Don’t let anyone weigh down your dreams.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My business is Restorative Fitness and we’re located in Phoenix, Arizona. At Restorative Fitness, we focus on corrective exercise, which is exercise coaching designed to improve joint and muscle health. It’s ideal for anyone feeling limited by joint or muscle discomfort, whether it’s affecting your daily activities (like walking, climbing stairs, or lifting bags) or the things you love (like sports, exercise, travel, or gardening).

Our goal is to enhance the quality of your joint movement and balance, so you can move with less discomfort—or none at all—and enjoy a more active, fulfilling life. We offer one-on-one coaching, both in-office and online via Zoom, joint-friendly group fitness classes, joint mobility stretching, and free webinars and educational sessions.

We focus solely on corrective exercise because we believe it builds the stability and balance in the body needed for a joyful, energetic life. Six-pack abs are great, but no more back pain? That’s even better. We feel incredibly lucky to support people in living their most active and healthy lifestyles.

Our motto is: Move Better, Feel Better, Live Better.

While corrective exercise isn’t a widely known specialty, we believe our customer service truly sets us apart in the wellness and fitness industry. With over 14 years of experience working one-on-one with clients, I know that personalized care and tailored programming are essential for success. What many people don’t realize is that a personalized plan needs regular adjustments—sometimes weekly, even daily—based on how the client is feeling and progressing.

At Restorative Fitness, I’ve built several systems into the operations to assess each client’s current health status and mental well-being. This allows us to continually redirect programming in the right direction, ensuring steady progress and keeping clients moving forward. Customer service is our core and I’m proud of that!

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Diligence.

I don’t think you can achieve long-term success in a small business without it. Diligence is all about that persistent effort and hard work required to keep pushing forward, to achieve your goals and complete tasks, even when it feels like it’s just you believing in yourself. It’s what drives you to keep going when challenges arise and motivates you to stay committed to your vision.

Now, I have 4 other qualities too to mention, but if I had to choose one, it would be diligence.
