Hidden Gems: Meet Keila Gutierrez of Desert Lily Bilingual Speech Therapy Clinic

Hi Keila, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up in Southern Arizona, raised bilingual and bicultural, and from an early age I was fascinated by how language works across cultures and contexts. That curiosity followed me into college, where I initially wasn’t sure what path I wanted to take. When I discovered speech-language pathology, everything clicked—it allowed me to combine my interest in language with meaningful work alongside families.

Over time, I developed a specialized focus on treating letter-sound difficulties, particularly for children who speak English, Spanish, or both. I became especially passionate about providing care that is culturally responsive and grounded in strong clinical reasoning, while also helping families feel confident and supported.

I founded Desert Lily Bilingual Speech Therapy Clinic to improve access to this type of specialized care. Today, we serve families across Arizona through telehealth, making high-quality services available regardless of location. In addition to speech sound treatment, we are expanding our services into literacy to better support children as their communication and academic needs grow.

I also present nationally and internationally on bilingual speech development and speech sound disorders, and remain deeply committed to equity, access, and empowering multilingual families.

We are an innovative and intentional speech therapy clinic that focuses on improving letter sounds with research-backed science & connection-based care. We use research-backed methods to understand how the brain hears and produces speech. We provide services in English, Spanish, or both.
