Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Stagliano.
Hi Kayla, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
For as long as I can remember, I have always loved to dress up, accessorize, and put on makeup. I remember as a child, I would put on my mom’s shoes and prance around the house.
I was born and raised in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. This is a small town with little entertainment. My mom, sister, and I would take day trips to various boutiques, along with heading over to Minnesota to go shopping.
While attending nursing school in my home town, I heard the saying, “think horses not zebras”. In other words, think normal or average, and not outside the box.
I realized I am a zebra, and tend to think outside the box. I ask a lot of questions and observe my environment closely. I love to be creative and do things my own way.
Then my family and I moved to Florida, where I was working as a pediatric nurse. In my free time, I was in the process of planning my dreams of opening a women’s clothing boutique, but life had other plans. I was in a vehicle accident that totaled my SUV, which left me needing extensive medical help. My family made the decision to move back to Wisconsin to seek the medical attention that I desperately needed.
After a couple of years and completing most of my medical treatment, we decided to move back to Florida. I was unfortunately once again in the wrong place, at the wrong time, and was in another vehicle accident, which totaled my SUV. I needed to once again put my dream on the back burner.
A few years later, my family decided to make another cross-country move to Arizona. I decided this was my opportunity to debut my dream.
When I came up with our business name, I remembered the saying, “think horses, not zebras”. No two zebras have the same stripes. As for zazzy, it means pizazz, snazzy, or to catch your eye. I tend to like to add a little detail and sparkle to everything I do.
I think life should be fun, that includes what you wear, your décor, and what you are doing.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My life has not been a smooth road, as a child, I dealt with an unstable household. I overcame two total motor vehicle accidents. I dealt with severe concussions, short-term memory loss, depression, anxiety, PTSD, pseudobulbar affect, migraines, nerve damage, along with neck and back issues. I struggled for many years, and still have lingering symptoms. Life hasn’t been easy, but I have always been one to be resilient. I know that everything happens for a reason, and I have a great appreciation for life.
As for my business, it has been a learning curve trying to navigate all social media channels, as well as learning a new state and culture. Also, becoming brave enough to launch and learn the business along the way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My mom (Denise Stokes) and I officially launched our website and business on 10/7/2021. We are currently online, and at vendor events in Phoenix, Scottsdale, and the surrounding cities.
After a little convincing, we were able to talk my sister (Stacy Stagliano) into modeling for our website. I am proud to say this is a family business.
We specialize in women’s clothing and accessories. We are known for our chic, western flare, animal print style, and we offer affordable quality clothing for all walks of life.
When a woman looks good, it gives her a confident feeling that puts out a positive vibe in the world.
Zazzy Zebra Boutique has had the opportunity to do vendor events in many different areas in Arizona, as well as being online.
Our goal is to open up a mobile boutique truck.
“I can’t think of any better representation of beauty than someone who is unafraid to be herself.” -Emma Stone
I think Emma was completely right. You should be you, do you, for you!
What matters most to you?
In my personal life, I make an effort to travel, and try as many new things as I can. Life is precious. I have seen first-hand how fast life can be taken away.
As for my business, I feel it is very important to personally get to know my customers. I want to know my customers as a person and not as a number. Zazzy Zebra Boutique has a mission to assist women with feeling good about themselves. If you look good, chances are you will feel good as well.
