Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Sanchez & Chelsea Matteson.
Hi Katherine Sanchez & Chelsea Matteson; please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Our paths crossed a few years ago when our shared interest in working with children and families brought us together at a practice in Scottsdale. We quickly discovered that our professional backgrounds were similar in that we’ve worked with underserved children and families who had experienced abuse and neglect. While we share similar clinical backgrounds, we come from very different roots as individuals. Bridging our stories has allowed us to amplify our work by making it a unique strength in our current practice, InSight Psychology. I (Katherine) was born and raised in Venezuela and moved to the U.S. as a young adolescent. Therefore, I am familiar with the impact that immigration and acculturation have on adolescent identity and family development. As a fourth-generation native of Arizona and a former college gymnast, I (Chelsea) have been eager to support my local community and youth athletes. Our innate work ethic, drive, and compassion have paved the way to where we are today. As if our lives weren’t busy enough, just a few months ago, we boldly decided to open InSight Psychology during both of our maternity leaves. As moms and rising entrepreneurs, we are thrilled with the opportunity to reach families in the valley by offering child therapy and evaluation services that are effective and practical. Since opening our practice in May 2023, every family we’ve had the privilege to help continues to ignite our fire and serve as our “why” or North Star on this journey.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being working moms allow us to relate to and support one another during those challenging moments when navigating “mom guilt” while building a new practice. As we start our new venture, balancing family life and pursuing our professional aspirations has been challenging. We continuously remind ourselves to be fully present and set healthy work-life boundaries to cherish our sweet moments with our families, which helps us recharge and feel refreshed as we tackle our work week.
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Located in North Scottsdale, InSight Psychology offers evaluations and specialized therapy for children, teens, young adults, and families. Our practice is centered around providing therapeutic approaches solidly based on research that are effective and practical so that therapy doesn’t have to be a lifelong commitment. Instead, our families see change and feel rewarded as they witness their children flourish. We want to walk side-by-side with families while offering them the tools they need to help their children thrive. We provide effective therapy for anxiety disorders (generalized anxiety, social anxiety, separation anxiety, phobias, OCD, perfectionism/rigidity), teen depression, and young child ADHD and disruptive behaviors. Additionally, suppose your child is struggling at school, or you’ve had that parents’ gut feeling that something else is happening. In that case, we also specialize in formal and child-focused evaluations for ADHD, learning differences, Autism, giftedness/2E, and other neurodevelopmental concerns.
