Hidden Gems: Meet Jonathan Garcia of Black Out Electric

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Garcia.

Hi Jonathan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
With a strong foundation from my father—who spent a decade each in electrical and roofing work—I naturally gravitated toward the trades. At 19, I began my solar career with SolarCity, one of the nation’s leading solar companies at the time (now Tesla Energy).

Driven by work ethic and leadership, I became a foreman by 21, then relocated to Nevada and was promoted to project manager, being the youngest overseeing 60 install crews. My work took me across the U.S., completing solar projects on military bases from coast to coast.

After years of travel, I returned to Arizona in 2016. I spent the next six years as a service technician, rounding out my hands-on expertise in solar. At 31, I concluded my time with Tesla.

In 2022, I transitioned into solar sales. With experience in installation, maintenance, and sales, I decided to start my own company—offering full-service solar and electrical solutions across the Valley.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Along the way, I’ve faced my fair share of challenges—like dealing with failed partnerships, starting out with limited funds, and working with sales reps who weren’t always reliable or honest. One of the biggest obstacles has been getting people to really trust and believe in solar. But every setback has taught me something and pushed me to build a business based on honesty, hard work, and helping homeowners make informed choices as well as expanding into electrical services.

Black Out Electric is a Arizona Native owned, Latino-led company specializing in solar detach and reset services across the Valley. The team works closely with roofing contractors to ensure solar systems are safely removed and reinstalled during roof repairs or replacements. We also offer ongoing maintenance and extended warranties—particularly valuable for homeowners whose original installer is no longer in business. We have expanded to electrical work both residential and commercial. The new wave is solar powered HVAC units and living in AZ these are a must!
