Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan & Evelyn Garcia.

Hi Jonathan & Evelyn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Flex Society is a family-owned training facility located in the heart of Downtown Mesa. We started Flex Society in early 2018 out of our home garage until we outgrew the spot and moved to our first location at the beginning of 2019.

Our first actual location only lasted a couple of months due to us outgrowing the location once again which lead us to what we now call home. We have been at our location in Downtown Mesa since June 2019 and since then our business has expanded. At the beginning of our journey, we only offered personal training so in order to access our facility, you had to have a personal trainer.

We then realized that having a personal trainer is a luxury and doesn’t fit into everyone’s budget. We wanted to make a bigger impact in our community and that’s when we decided to introduce memberships and open our doors to the entire public. We now run a facility that is open 24/7 to the public with a regular membership. Since then we have also added other services, we now offer 1 on 1 personal training, boxing fitness for both adults and kids, group training, and meals plan.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We can both agree that it hasn’t been a smooth road but nothing we couldn’t overcome. As we had no business experience nor any guidance to help a lot was trial and error. With no loans and no handouts, all we knew was that we had a vision and we were DETERMINED to bring it to life.

One of our greatest obstacles throughout our journey was managing to stay open during the COVID-19 pandemic as all gyms were forced to close. During that time we did have to sacrifice and pay for everything out of pocket in order to not go under and have to close permanently. If COVID didn’t take us out nothing will. We will continue to learn and grow.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are Flex Society’s private training Facility. We offer 24/7 memberships at a private location along with no contracts, no signup fees, and are not overly packed. We specialize in personal training, weight loss, and building confidence in all of our clients.

One thing we love to say is we are not a corporate gym, your health is in our best interest. We shake every single member’s hand at least once and even work out with our members which is something a corporate gym owner could never say.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
If you have a business idea you must be ready to work hard for it. Many people walk into starting a business thinking it will give them freedom which is true but that will come with time.

Be prepared to fall, trip, and damn near fail but also be ready to get up more times than you fell. Prepare yourself for hard times, long nights, and long days! Time is key, you will not work 8-5 you will work around the clock but in the end, it’s all so worth it.
