Hidden Gems: Meet Jen Roberts of Cascadia Designed, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Roberts.

Jen Roberts

Hi Jen, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started photography in my sophomore year when I was in high school. It was then that I discovered a passion for creativity. My photography teacher at the time had entered one of my photos into the regional art competition, and to my surprise, I won an award. This has given me the confidence to continue exploring photography. I continued to practice photography recreationally until my college years. While pursuing my Bachelor’s Degree in marketing and design, I took another photography course to achieve my degree. My professor at the time had encouraged me to major in photography instead. While I didn’t major in photography, his encouragement and support gave me the confidence to start my own company without knowing where it would take me. Shortly after taking the leap, I received an opportunity to work with several local magazines. This is where I grew my business and dialed in my niche. I began working with local business owners, primarily Realtors, who have grown my business in ways I didn’t think were possible. I now specialize in branding, lifestyle, and wedding photography. Thanks to my network and connections within the area, my business has grown on a referral-based system. If you had told 16-year-old Jen that she would have her own business doing what she loves, she would be in awe! I couldn’t have done it without the big man upstairs. He is the one who has ultimately blessed my business in more ways than I could imagine.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
The road throughout my journey in photography has had its bumps. I’ve had moments where motivation was slim to none. I learned to take breaks and spend time in nature to fuel my creativity and inspire me. I found that if I constantly poured into my work and did not give back to myself, I would burn out, and my fire for photography would be less bright. There were moments when I didn’t believe in myself or thought about quitting, but I decided to keep trying. My friends and family have constantly encouraged me throughout my photography journey. I’ve learned to believe in myself when the imposter syndrome hits. Through practice and repetition, I’ve gained confidence in the areas where I felt anxious. Learning to overcome the mental roadblocks has given me the strength to keep moving forward, ultimately fueling my passion. If we didn’t go through the valleys, we wouldn’t appreciate the summits as much. Overcoming the obstacles has made my journey more rewarding.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
