Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeffrey Wilson.
Hi Jeffrey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up in West Texas, and earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in horticulture at Texas Tech University. I received my PhD in Plant Breeding at Texas A&M University in 2013. During my time as a graduate student, I struggled with anxiety, depression, and Crohn’s Disease. I worked as a commercial plant breeder for almost a decade before coming to Phoenix area in 2022. I can here to work in the biological fertilizer industry, but my experience in the business was overwhelmingly negative. After struggling for several years, I met a psychiatric nurse practitioner, Troy Fulton, who was looking to expand his business. Together, we formed San Creek Mental Health, and are serving clients in the East Valley. It is an honor to help others who are often struggling with many of the same issues I faced over the years. I have maintained a presence in the biofertilizer industry as a distributor in Africa for a local manufacturer. I also hold a full-time job as the Community Garden Supervisor for the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community. As a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, I received many great benefits over the years, so I particularly enjoy giving my time and effort to the Native American Community. I have been married for five years to my wonderful wife, Carmen, and we have a 19 month old son named Jeffrey Thomas. He is the greatest blessing in my life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve battled depression, anxiety and Crohn’s disease much of my life. Moving to Phoenix was initially a disaster for me, financially and career-wise. I was even the victim of a sophisticated local con-artist. The time away from work allowed me to raise my son for over a year, which was a tremendous blessing despite the financial hardships. For the sake of our family, I picked myself up off the ground and worked to get us whole again. The moral to the story is never, ever give up, and there is light at the end of the tunnel.
