Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Plein.
Jason, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started in the restoration Industry in 1997. I worked as a project manager/ estimator until 2000. I left the industry and went to truck driving… In 2005, I suffered a brachial plexus injury. After 18 surgical procedures between 2005 and 2009, my shoulder was paralyzed and fused into place. I couldn’t hold a CCDL anymore and was on social security disability. I was not content with spending the rest of my life on disability, so I started my own therapy/workout regimen to regain some of my mobility back. In 2013, my now wife Elizabeth had worked in the restoration industry since 2000 started teaching me the office side of restoration. I eventually rehabbed myself to be able to get off disability and got a job working for a restoration company as a Construction manager/ estimator in 2019. After a few years of both Elizabeth and I working for that company, we decided we needed to start our own. We were tired of seeing bad restoration practices happening and wanted to do things differently. We wanted our company’s emphasis to be on customer-driven service and knowledge of our services. I am now an IICRC Master water restorer, Master fire restorer, Master textile cleaner, trauma and crime scene certified, and 1 of only 2 IICRC certified mold remediation specialists in the state of Arizona.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not a smooth road with my shoulder issues
As you know, we’re big fans of Restoration 1 of Avondale. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
We are an independently local Veteran owned franchise. We specialize in Water Mitigation, Mold Remediation, Fire Restoration, Trauma, and Crime scene cleanup, including unattended death, homicide, suicide, and tear gas cleanup. We are an IICRC Certified firm for every service we offer. I am an IICRC triple master, and my wife is an IICRC dual Master (Water and Fire). We are also licensed, bonded, and insured. We have over 35 years of combined experience in the industry. Our commitment to our customers and our level of education in our field is what really sets us apart from our competition.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
We have mentored many new restoration owners and employees. The key is to find someone who actually cares about how this industry is represented and is willing to share what they know.
Elizabeth and I both belong to BNI as well as many other networking groups.
