Today we’d like to introduce you to Jane Mishkind

Hi Jane, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always been a creative . My mediums have changed over the years, but I have never stopped creating. I spent many years as a jeweler, I love all aspects of that passion. I am obsessed with antique jewelry . I love to study the history of jewelry and the meaning it had in different cultures around the world. Eventually I learned to set stones and create with jewelers tools! That period of time was a highlight in my creative journey. As all things must end; the constant banging of the tools took a toll on my hands and I had to find another creative outlet.
This is when oil painting entered my studio. I took a couple of weekend workshops and I was hooked.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Has my oil painting been a smooth road? I would say absolutely yes. For me oil painting is akin to a moving meditation. I loose myself in my work in a peaceful, and most grateful way. I can honestly say this medium will be with be for the rest of my days.

Smiling Horse Studios is a painting studio comprised of one painter and three horses. I can watch our horses sleep in the sun from my studio windows. I consider myself an oil painter, however I do love to occasionally use India inks if the mood sticks me.Some of my paintings are soft . Some of my paintings are dark. Some of my paintings seem confusing. But all of my paintings are honest, and kind pieces of my world.
I am the kind of impressionist landscape painter that paints only from what is in my soul. I don’t use photo reference , or paint plein air.
To begin a new painting:
I smell my horses
Collect all my supplies
Open my paint caddy
Smile and softly thank the universe
