Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Webb.
Hi Jacob, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As a kid, I used my free time to make short movies with my friends. I used point-and-shoot cameras and edited them using Windows Movie Maker. The process came instinctively as I’d been using computers for several years by the time I was nine years old. I obsessively watched films and their extraneous content. Behind the scenes, featurettes, interviews, and bloopers.
It’s always been a comfort to stay up late and fall asleep watching something. That process has bled into my adult life. I am still a night owl, and I spend much of that solitary time editing. My obsession with film has become a tool for my photography career. One of the most direct examples would be framing. I’ve been conscious of subject framing for most of my life. It’s a reflex when I photograph something. This can actually be dizzying outside of my work. I involuntarily frame scenes in everyday life.
While the bulk of my current workload is photography related, I jump on video opportunities as they present themselves. Videography presents more of a creative challenge, in my own experience. There are many factors to consider and plan for when shooting video. I am collaborating with several groups to create a few upcoming music videos. Dogbreth, KRYGE, and Blāthe. Anything related to music excites me.
On the day-to-day, I am now focusing on Drone Photogrammetry. My LLC will soon be creating highly detailed ortho mosaics, These are 3D aerial reference maps – largely for commercial clientele. Stay tuned!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Thankfully, I reliably have good fortune. That’s not to say that I don’t push myself with my work, and I don’t always tempt fate either. I mean to say that I aim high and am usually rewarded for it. The times I fail don’t phase me as much as they have affected me in the past.
It is more the factors that are beyond my control that I struggle with. I lost my younger brother about four years ago.
Then, my wife and I had a full-term stillborn daughter two years after. Those experiences were emotionally taxing and further drained my drive for creativity. I am grateful that I still have another brother, and now a one-year-old son to look after. So the road has not been completely smooth.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My company has been under the radar for years. This is in part because I wanted to concentrate on one area, rather than spread it thin. Quality over quantity. DMN LLC will specialize in Drone Photogrammetry.
There are many applications and industries that call for this process: Construction, architecture, inspections, agriculture, mining, oil, etc. I will be launching automated drone flights that capture a 2D to create an accurate 3D digital model. Now that I have decided on this service, I may finally advertise Default Mode Netwerk.
What were you like growing up?
I am still growing up.
