Today we’d like to introduce you to Irishia Williams.
Hi Irishia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As a young girl, I loved going to school; it was the one place where I felt safe and seen. During my middle and high school years, I knew I wanted to help other kids learn, which is why I would often ask my teachers if I could assist a classmate after finishing my own work. This passion continued through college at UCLA, where I joined a program teaching inner-city youth through an afterschool program, served as a teaching assistant in the Education Department, and worked at a summer residential camp for girls.
I am a passionate advocate for inclusive education and am dedicated to empowering teachers and parents to actively participate in their children’s educational journeys. With over 20 years of experience in education, including 15 years as a Certified Education and Program Specialist, I have worked with students and teachers from preschool through adult learners, addressing diverse needs such as Autism, learning disabilities, and emotional disturbances. In 2020, I founded Educational Ties during the pandemic to guide families in developing advocacy skills, assessing education services, and evaluating classroom policies. My work includes coaching parents on advocating for special education services and supporting teachers through Transformative Social and Emotional Learning (T-SEL). My latest community effort is Inspire Academy of Schools, an inclusive microschool that supports both neurotypical and neurodiverse students with their homeschooling and online learning journeys.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Reflecting on my journey, I’ve faced several significant struggles that have shaped who I am today. Growing up, I dealt with the challenge of absent parents due to addiction, which often left me feeling isolated and uncertain about my future. Despite this, I remained determined to excel and maximize the opportunities that receiving a good education would afford me.
Once I made my way to college, I found myself unprepared for the academic demands and pressures that came with higher education. The transition was tough, and I had to navigate it largely on my own, working hard to catch up and ensure I could succeed. I finally completed by undergraduate degree within 4.5 years. Once I graduated from college I started a family shortly thereafter. Balancing the responsibilities of raising a family while pursuing my teaching credential and master’s degree added another layer of complexity. Juggling coursework, family life, and personal commitments was incredibly challenging, but it reinforced my resilience and dedication. These experiences have fueled my passion for education and advocacy, driving me to support others facing similar struggles and to create inclusive and supportive educational environments.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

My passion is to pave the way for students to envision and achieve their aspirations. I believe in going beyond traditional education, focusing on instilling purpose and awareness about various college and career possibilities. I am most proud of the moments when students faces light up with the “AH-HA” moment!
What makes you happy?
What truly makes me happy is witnessing students navigate the discovery phases of learning. There’s something gratifying about seeing that moment when a concept clicks or when a student uncovers new ideas and connections. Watching their curiosity unfold and their understanding deepen brings me immense joy. These moments of discovery not only highlight the progress they’ve made but also ignite a lifelong love of learning. Knowing that I’ve played a role in fostering that excitement and growth is what fuels my passion for education and keeps me motivated every day. It also brings me joy to see the excitement on parents’ faces when they witness their child learning new skills. The pride and happiness that parents express when they see their child’s growth and achievements are incredibly fulfilling. It’s a powerful reminder of the positive impact that education can have on families and the profound difference that learning can make in a child’s life. These moments of shared joy and success inspire me and reinforce my commitment to supporting both students and their families.
