Today we’d like to introduce you to Herb Westmoreland
Hi Herb, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up my parents had several businesses in addition to investing in real estate. My parents were big proponents of involving my siblings and I in all of their business ventures, especially real estate. We helped in every aspect and as we got older they involved us more and more.
As I got older and was trying to find my way, I began to have other interest outside of real estate. I graduated with a degree in Business Admin and began working in the corporate world of insurance. Eventually I left the insurance field and began a career in sales which I absolutely loved and worked my way into management. Unfortunately, the further I advanced up the corporate ladder the less I enjoyed what I was doing. Many large corporations view you and their clientele as just another number on a spread sheet and that didn’t sit right with me as I began to see employees weren’t valued and consumers were often taken advantage of. Needless to say, I knew it was time to move on and about 5 years after doing so that large conglomerate is no longer in existence.
As I did some soul searching to determine what career move to make that would be fulfilling, yet allow me to prosper personally I kept circling back to real estate. I absolutely loved being a part of all the different facets of real estate that my parents exposed me to but the one thing I hadn’t learned was how to help others achieve their real estate goals. That’s when I chose to pursue my real estate license and follow the recommendation of the great Zig Ziglar “You Can Have Everything in Life You Want if You Will Just Help Enough Other People Get What They Want.”
Once I got licensed as a Realtor I joined a mega team. The training, support systems, leads, etc were all great! The one thing that was still missing for me was the ability to truly “help others get what they want” without having to put any of my own/the teams goals ahead of my clients. After spending about 9 months on this team I found another brokerage who’s vision was directly in line with mine. Not only that but this brokerage doesn’t gouge their Realtors through splits which helps allow us to keep our clients first. Needless to say, I’m still with this brokerage and love it!
I’ve now been a Realtor for 4 years and can honestly say it has been the most fulfilling years of my life! The privilege to truly put others first in achieving their goals really does boil over into all other facets of your life. My only regret is not doing it sooner!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing in life worth fighting for is ever a smooth road; however, when you make it through to the other side it’s worth every bit of that rocky road.
In the beginning I was challenged with learning contracts, art of negotiating on behalf of others, and finding clientele. As I figured out how to tackle each of those hurdles with the help of my mentors, next I had to learn about navigating the ever changing market.
The beauty of this industry is that it’s ever changing and as various obstacles present themselves it’s an opportunity for you to grow. Bring on the obstacles!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Homes With Herb – Best Homes Real Estate?
As a Realtor I specialize in assisting buyers, sellers, and investors. One of the major things that sets me apart is communication. I make it a priority to learn about my clients, their wants, needs, and goals. Once that has been established it allows us to create a plan of attack.
You would be amazed how many people I’ve met who have interviewed several other Realtors who don’t share anything about the process of purchasing a home, what to expect, and how they intend to help them achieve their goals. Without having these conversations and communicating how I will help them execute our plan of attack, it’s as though you’re going at it aimlessly. When you’re in a competitive market like Phoenix and surrounding areas it’s incredibly important to ensure these things are being discussed.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I’m a big Momma’s boy, love golfing even if I’m not great at it, and pickleball has been my latest obsession.
