Today we’d like to introduce you to George Papamatheakis.
Hi George, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve wanted to make a difference in the world around me for as long as I can remember, even before I knew how I could. I grew up in a large family that instilled the values of hard work and the importance of helping others. My parents, longtime restaurant owners, taught me early on that to be successful, you have to wake up every morning and be willing to work harder and smarter than you did the day before. After high school, I went to college to study medicine, but only for a short time. I was eager to enter the business community where I could forge relationships and build organizations that helped people. I worked in network marketing for a while and was a restaurant owner for some time. But, my passion for helping others and business collided when I opened Collision Chiropractors and Med Royal. I co-own the businesses with my brother Mike, a licensed chiropractor, and we have over 25 plus offices across the Valley between the two. The experience has been incredibly rewarding and has allowed for the resources needed to launch The CARE Organization. Since 2019, we’ve positively impacted the lives of children facing crisis situations. Our main focus is being a force behind providing aid to children who are victims of human trafficking and abuse.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a smooth road?
Anyone who says launching a nonprofit is a smooth road has never done it. It’s an undoubtedly rewarding but huge undertaking. Building CARE into a successful organization requires a lot of financial and personal risk. There are so many different dynamics that go into this mission that it can be challenging to manage with delicacy yet impactful. An element we don’t speak about often enough is the business behind human trafficking. It’s, unfortunately, a profitable industry that many do not want to see a resolution to. That being said, we’ve sometimes received pushback for getting involved and being a force trying to stop this.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The CARE Organization, Collision Chiropractic, and Med Royal?
In addition to owning and operating Collision Chiropractic and Med Royal with my brother and longtime friend, Roni Warda, I co-founded CARE with Roni. Our objective was to build an organization that brings relief to children in dire circumstances. All fundraising efforts go directly to our initiatives. A testament to this, we’re holding our inaugural Red Carpet Gala at Wild Horse Pass Gila River on Saturday, September 24. Profits from the gala will go towards purchasing and renovating our organization’s new local group home in the Valley, which will serve as a haven for young girls currently recovering from trafficking. There is a critical need for homes for victims of human trafficking to stay in once rescued. Our home will provide comprehensive care and services that help treat emotional and physical trauma and substance abuse support and meet their basic needs.
We’re an action-driven organization and believe we’re only beginning to make a powerful impact in our communities and beyond. We’re excited about our upcoming gala. It’s a tremendous opportunity to bring more awareness and real change to children who desperately need it. Beyond that, we can’t wait to continue to grow CARE and change the lives of as many as we can. There’s work to be done, and we want to be at the forefront.
It sounds cliche, but I want to help make our communities a kinder place. Whether through our work at CARE or just simple habits in my everyday life, my goal is to continue to evolve and help make a positive difference for those around me.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Phoenix is a melting pot made up of people from around the U.S. and internationally. That makes our city innately diverse and encourages continued growth and incredible entrepreneurial opportunities. In my experience, you’ll find, more times than not, that people truly do want to work together to continue to build a stronger business community across industries.
Regarding what I like least, I think we can do a better job at being stewards of the communities that surround us. So many areas need support and, quite frankly, to be built up and protected more. That’s why it’s so important for organizations like CARE to be able to help bring more awareness and implement the change needed.
