Hidden Gems: Meet Elisa Moreno of Call Her Martina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elisa Moreno.

Hi Elisa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Call Her Martina is a Modern Mexican family-owned restaurant. We moved to Arizona about 10 years ago from Sonora, Mexico. We grew up in a family where food has always been the main topic. Our abuelas have always been amazing cooks, with secret recipes we enjoyed eating and learning growing up. Passion for food and an entrepreneurial mindset made us create a concept like Call Her Martina. Being fascinated by the restaurant industry of Mexico City-inspired us to share the authentic modern Mexican experience with our neighborhood in Old Town Scottsdale. Our menu combines Northern and Central Mexico recipes we learned while traveling inside our country. We try to bring a “twist” to every dish and change people’s perspectives about traditional Mexican food.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As a family, we have always been very close to each other, but this is the closest we’ve been. It isn’t easy when every family member has different ideas and perspectives, so making business decisions has been challenging. Thankfully this has made us become even closer and learn from each other. This is our first restaurant business, so that has been a challenge to learn things from zero and find the right people. We’re very grateful to have found many experienced people who have guided us through the process and been with us all the way.

We’ve been impressed with Call Her Martina, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Co-Owner and Marketing Manager. My sister Paola Moreno and me created Martina’s brand from zero.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
It was cooking with our grandma.
