Hidden Gems: Meet Cory Tatman of Total Sports Therapy Glendale/Arrowhead

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cory Tatman.

Hi Cory, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in the northwest suburbs of Chicago in a single-parent household with my mom and older brother. I grew up playing sports, being active, and wanting to help others in need. During my junior year of college, I was introduced to the profession of physical therapy and was hooked.

I was the first of my family to graduate from college with a Bachelor of Science and then went on to pursue graduate school. In 2017 I graduated with my Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Northern Illinois University. This is where I met my now wife, Samantha, who is also  a physical therapist. A week after graduating, we moved to Arizona to begin practicing in the valley. We love the state of Arizona and wanted  to have a larger impact on our local community. This is why after three years of practicing as a physical therapist in the Cave Creek/Scottsdale area, I opened a physical therapy practice in the Glendale/Arrowhead area close to where we live.

Opening our doors in 2020 has been one of the most rewarding things in my life. It’s allowed me to help my community while also aligning myself with like-minded providers that “go the extra mile.” It has not been easy working towards providing the highest quality of care I can while also growing a business, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all. I opened our doors on April 1st of 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. I had one patient in my first month practicing and could not effectively market my services to neighboring healthcare providers or the local community. It was a difficult time to try and grow a brand new practice with lots of uncertainty along the way. However, I am proud to say that we made it through better because of the adversity, and I have been able to hire a second physical therapist provider to start in 2023.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We pride ourselves with being different regarding physical therapy and healthcare in general. We provide personalized, one-on-one orthopedic physical therapy to individuals dealing with pain, injury, or rehabbing from a recent surgery. Our goal with every patient we work with is for them to feel listened to, involved in their plan of care, and empowered to reach their goals and get back to living pain-free.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Trust the process. If you provide a high quality of care and show that you truly care, word will travel. Over the past three years, we have developed great relationships with many doctors and surgeons throughout the valley. However, our largest referral source is still word of mouth from the local community. The highest compliment a patient can give us is referring a friend, family member, or neighbor. This is why we give it our all every visit we work with someone.
