Hidden Gems: Meet Ceylan Rowe of Fihri

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ceylan Rowe.

Hi Ceylan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am passionate about removing barriers for women and girls. It was only 5 years ago when I heard about the period poverty in the United States. I was shocked to learn that 1 out of 5 students in the US does not have access to period products. I naively thought it was an issue in other countries, but it happens in our communities. The thought of students missing class because of their period completely frustrated me, especially as a menstruator and mom.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course not.  Smooth roads aren’t typical for start-up entrepreneurs, especially ones balancing their business with raising kids. But I am completely motivated by the impact Fihri is having, by helping menstruators in need.   Regardless of the day-to-day challenges of building a business, I know the work we do matters, it can change the lives of menstruators and that helps me get through whatever challenges I face.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Fihri, we believe in a world where students don’t miss school because of their period. Our job is to make it easy for menstruating students to access healthier and sustainable period products. We curated over 50 types of period products from biodegradable pads, 100% organic tampons with plant-based applicators, menstrual cups, discs, and period underwear. We have opportunities for people and businesses to sponsor a student in need, a school in need, or host a period drive. We also offer subscriptions to make it easy for people to access healthier period products physically. We believe there isn’t just one way to menstruate.

What are your plans for the future?
Help over 1 million menstruators access period products so they can continue their education, graduate, and become financially independent. My goal is for 1 million menstruators’ lives to be better because their period wasn’t a barrier for them.  Another goal is for Fihri to host period drives, globally in 2023. I’m committed to helping the 500 million menstruators who dont have access to period products each month. But it can’t be done alone. I’m so grateful for the Fihri community, these are a group of amazing change makers who are just as passionate about ending period poverty as I am.  Together we will make a difference. Please join us!
