Today we’d like to introduce you to Carsyn Tromp Sample.

Hi Carsyn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started in the financial industry when I graduated from college. I started my first insurance agency in 2001 when I was 25 years old.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road. Self employment probably really never is. We were building our company during the recession when the mortgage crisis and housing bubble happened. People were being foreclosed on. It was a really difficult time to be a brand new business.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Apache Trail Insurance?
Our agency is located in the shadows of the Superstition Mountains in Apache Junction. We’re a family office that opened our doors in 2001. We specialize in personal insurance as well as in commercial insurance, specifically general liability, commercial auto, and workers compensation coverage.
My mom, Dawn, is an agent in the office, as well as my son, Tyler. My Aunt Roxie is our office manager. A few days a week, my grandson comes in to work before preschool. It’s definitely a family business.
We’re very proud of being Iron Peak members and our relationships with great companies like Travelers, Hartford, Safeco, and Main Street America.
I think being a family business sets us apart and the customer service we provide. We treat people like we’d hope they would treat our friends and family members. We work really hard to make sure people are getting the coverage they need, but also at a price they can afford. We love that we’ve been open so long now that we are insuring second and third generations.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Listen to people, really listen. People may not always remember how much money you saved them or how you stayed after hours to write insurance for them. They will absolutely remember that you listened to what their concerns were and that you treated them fairly.
