Hidden Gems: Meet Caleb Riutta of Dusk Digital

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caleb Riutta.

Hi Caleb, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Let’s rewind back to the hot summer of 2017. I was in Phoenix under painful and personal circumstances; I was attending my mother’s funeral. At the time, my wife gave birth to my second baby the day before my mother passed. I was residing in Finland (Northern Europe) and was working on my Bachelor’s thesis.

Life took on another meaning with the birth of my baby and the passing of my mother. It was heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. I stayed in Arizona for a month after the funeral to work for my brother’s roofing company to recuperate my plane ticket and stay in Phoenix. I was a broke student with 2 kids and a wife to support in another country, and our car was burning an exorbitant amount of oil.

My friend from school approached me with a business idea. He proposed that we start a Web Design and SEO company in Arizona. He is from Germany and already had experience building and optimizing websites. Being hungry and in need to work towards something bigger in my life, I readily agreed.

I started out by cold calling local businesses that had outdated sites that underperformed. I needed to take my mind off everything that was going on in my life and jumped headfirst into learning how to develop websites and optimize them. This is how we landed our first client.

Fast forward… After practicing and training with small companies, we started to realize what our niche was. Startups that were going through funding rounds and that needed fast and consistent growth. Though we still have smaller service-based customers, our primary niche is technology-based startups. We like working with startups because we are always improving our own skills because of the growth targets that we need to hit. This way, we learn fast and get to be more creative in our strategies.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There have been many struggles. In the beginning, it was the lack of clients and cash flow now managing people to stay up with our monthly services. Developing processes that bring value to the end customer and are time/ cost-efficient has been a big hurdle.

We have realized a key insight regarding this hurdle: if it doesn’t affect our client’s bottom line, then don’t do it. Sometimes clients will want more from us, and we know that what they are asking will not make them rank higher in Google Searches (our main mission); sometimes, we have to decline respectfully.

Another huge hurdle has been client acquisition. We were both studying in Finland, and our business was registered in Arizona. Shortly afterward, the COVID 19 pandemic occurred. We tried different methods with low success. That was when we met Richard Latimer, who owns Veritas Buyers. He turned into our customer and business mentor. He has helped train us in the art of online sales.

Also, Paul Stein, Founder of Trusted House Painter, has helped us a lot with figuring out what we need to do in our professional development.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Dusk Digital?
We are a boutique Web Design and SEO company. Our main goals are to build client’s websites in a way that drives conversions (users into leads) and optimize the website, so it shows up for certain keywords in Google Searches. SEO is a great way for companies to passively sell to their target customers without knowing that they are being sold to.

What sets us apart from the rest of the SEO companies is mainly the results that we deliver. We work in the competitive landscape of start-ups, and this requires us to drive serious growth. We also use the knowledge that we have picked up in this landscape for our smaller local companies. They are always impressed with the numbers every month.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We are always taking on new customers whether they are small to medium-sized. they can simply call us or fill out our contact form on our website.

Pricing:

  • Small Companies: Starting off at $2,000+ a month
