Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Cano Sr.
Hi Brian, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As a 53-year-old native Phoenician, who recently graduated from Arizona State University, The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, I grew up watching a different type of television news. An era void of Internet and cable news networks.
As a kid, I would sit in front of the TV set and wait for the airing of ‘the most trusted man in America,’ Walter Cronkite. He made it crystal clear that news delivery was a very serious job performed by serious individuals. So, as a preteen entrepreneur, I went to right to work. As a Phoenix paperboy in the 1970s, I delivered newspapers for Central Newspapers Inc. Sadly, the Arizona Republic and Phoenix Gazette shifted to adult delivery only, which effectively ended the era of paperboys.
Many years later, as a City of Phoenix Golf Professional, I instructed countless adult clients and junior golfers at Papago, Encanto, Aguila, Maryvale, Cave Creek and Palo Verde Golf Courses. As an 18U ASA club softball and USSSA 18U baseball manager/head coach, (Lil Saints and Rebels) I worked alongside some of Arizona’s top-notch boys’ and girls’ high school athletes. In 2016, I enrolled at South Mountain Community College, where I earned my associate degree with high distinction. In the fall of 2019, I transferred to the Cronkite School. While at ASU, I interned at Times Media Group, as a staff writer. In addition, in the summer of 2020, I worked for Cronkite News as a digital reporter.
In November 2020, while attending ASU, my son, Brian Jr., and I launched Tiesonomo Media Group, LLC, which is located less than five miles from ASU’s Tempe campus. As CEO of Tiesonomo.com, I began the process of assembling a group of well-trained and well-resourced individuals who bring an all-digital multimedia reporting style and willingness to challenge authority to the Phoenix media market. At Tiesonomo Media, we strive to create an environment where our highly skilled digital content teams do their best work. Furthermore, we encourage equal-pay policies as well as family-friendly leave that help establish work and life balance. I believe that everyone deserves respect and equal treatment regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, cultural background, or religious beliefs.
In addition, we offer career development opportunities to help our staff reach their full potential. Ultimately, we feel that our out-of-the-box initiatives will contribute to making our team members happier, more diverse, and better positioned to make a profound impact on our audiences. More importantly, I am committed to the Tiesonomo Media news delivery model: The notion that society will benefit from reliable, accurate information delivered calmly and dispassionately. ‘And that’s the way it is’ – Walter Cronkite.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
As a 53-year-old journalism student, I faced a long list of epic challenges. My personal journey included both time and financial obstacles; however, I would grin, bear it, and reference a poem when felt overwhelmed. “See It Through” by Edgar Guest
“When you’re up against a trouble, meet it squarely, face to face; Lift your chin and set your shoulders, plant your feet and take a brace. When it’s vain to try to dodge it, do the best that you can do; you may fail, but you may conquer. See it through!
Black may be the clouds about you and your future may seem grim, but don’t let your nerve desert you; keep yourself in fighting trim. If the worst is bound to happen, spite of all that you can do, running from it will not save you. See it through!
Even hope may seem but futile when with troubles you’re beset, but remember you are facing Just what other men have met. You may fail, but fall still fighting; don’t give up, whatever you do; eyes front, head high to the finish. See it through!”

Tiesonomo Media Group, LLC is named in honor of my best friend, Tyson. For over 16-years he gave me unconditional love and was a loyal partner. He was, perhaps, the smartest American Pitbull Terrier in history. For the record, when I arrived home from work tired, Tyson would hug me as he got excited and eventually would buck like a bronco bull to the sound of my voice: Go Tysonomo Go!
