Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Holly.
Hi Becky, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It took me awhile to find my passion! At first I went to community college thinking I wanted to be a kindergarten teacher which obviously that didn’t work out. Then, I went to beauty school for hair and I hated it! So randomly I just decided to switch to a different school and try esthetics in 2009 and I loved it! At first I didn’t care for facials much, they were slow and made me tired and at the age I was (20) I needed something more social and fast paced. So I really gravitated towards waxing and I was really good at it! I always knew I wanted to open my own little space but there was a time I never saw that as a possibility for myself. I was always into the party life but by this point in my life I had fallen into a drug addiction. At first it was manageable and I just partied a lot, then pretty quickly it got really bad. I still had some esthetician jobs here and there but I definitely lost my drive and purpose, I was just trying to make money. Fast forward thru many years of hardships and pain I finally got sober in December 2015. I eventually got back into waxing and worked at a waxing chain for 7 years. I’m really grateful for that place because it’s where I met all my clients! I built so many meaningful relationships that when I took the leap of faith to open my own studio last year, most of my clients followed me. I’ve officially been open a little over a year and it was the best decision I could have made. I love my job and am always happy to go to work! A little fun fact: back in esthetics school in 2009 we had to make a fake business and I created “just b esthetics” and still have the paper I wrote it all down on. And here I am, 16 years later bringing that vision to life.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
To be honest, opening my own business has been a pretty smooth transition and I owe that all to my clients! Their loyalty to me meant I didn’t have to start from 0. And I also have a very supportive husband who helped me a lot with the online admin side of my business.
But I also had a plan that I slowly created over the years so this wasn’t some last minute decision. So that definitely helped me make this move feeling prepared.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I’ve been a licensed esthetician since 2009 and I really pride myself in my attention to detail and perfectionism! I own my own studio in Chandler, Arizona and I offer: full body waxing, custom facials, dermaplaning, microneedling and Hydrafacials.
I wanted to use and sell products I personally believe in and I found an amazing wax that was created by an esthetician! I also use and sell products from a skincare line that was also created by an esthetican! And another fun fact: I also sell a serum that was created by my old boss who is an esthetician turned business owner.
just b esthetics is a space that has a purpose and my mission is to provide the best services I personally trust.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The beauty industry is always changing and that’s why it’s so important as an esthetician I keep up with my ongoing education. But I do like to think of myself more of an “old school esthetician” which means I believe in the simple basics. Popular trends usually aren’t the route I go.
