Hidden Gems: Meet Abby Vick of Paradigm Money Management

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abby Vick.

Hi Abby, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I studied social work at a small private school and worked as a social worker in various fields.

The most common denominator is that people needed help with money, and wanted to feel confident with money, and it was harming their emotional stability when they lived in scarcity. After going through a broker training program at Schwab, I talked to lots of investors, old and young, wealthy and penny-pinching.

The experience of being on the phone with hundreds of clients made it more and more obvious that we all experience money similarly meaning the amount in the bank account doesn’t translate to how someone feels. Even if I saw millions in their account, they were still experiencing fear of losing it, fear of mishandling it, and fear of scarcity. How much money is enough?

This question was following me around because it never seems like enough. Are there enough returns the stock market can produce to satisfy someone’s desire to grow their money?

Are there enough raises and bonuses to satisfy what someone wants to spend every year? Is there a way to save for the future and live a spectacular, fun, thrilling life now? I was in search of this for myself and for my clients. To find a way to spend money on the life we’ve always wanted to live and expand for the future so we feel taken care of down the road.

I realized that the only way to accomplish this creatively, with the client I wanted was by starting my own firm. This is when Paradigm Money Management was born in 2019. I began with zero clients, but lots of connections to bring new clients the best money management and insurance options to fit them.

After starting my firm, I began meeting other women advisors and realized I was far from the only one who was trying to serve our clients differently, and educate them and was hitting a wall in doing so at other firms. Now, I have 4 other female advisors who are working with me at Paradigm across the country, making an impact where they are.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I’m very proud of where I have come from and the clients I’ve been able to work with.

Of course, it hasn’t been easy. I’ve changed methods, tried new marketing, and had to learn what my clients really want. I have learned how to ask better questions and have learned to let go of projects that aren’t working. I’ve learned what kind of partnerships I really want to pursue and who to refer my clients to when they need more help.

Creating meaningful relationships when you’re building a business is often the thing that creates the most success and learning to say no to the connections that aren’t truly helpful is imperative.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Paradigm has 2 purposes. #1 it was created to focus on financial education for women and families so they can create the future and current lifestyle of their choosing. #2 it was created to help female advisors create client relationships at a firm that values creativity, education, and relationship.

We specialize in working with women, especially female entrepreneurs so they can organize their business and personal finances and are thriving in both places. After financial education, our clients feel confident in talking about their money and choosing what to do with their money. They are more sure about their future and are better able to communicate with others about money, including spouses.

We named our company Paradigm because we want our clients to have a shift of mindset, a total change in the way they view their money and the future they can imagine for themselves.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I have learned that the more true I can stay to my original vision, the more meaningful relationships and greater happiness I feel doing the work.

When building a business, it’s important to remember your why, so that when the times get tough or you’re feeling unsure, you can remember something bigger than you, bigger than your feelings.
