Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria DaCosta.
Hi Victoria, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was raised in Gilbert, Arizona, after moving here from California. I’m the oldest of five kids in a big family, and we didn’t have much growing up. But those early years taught me a lot about hard work, resilience, and taking care of the people around me. School became my outlet—it was where I found purpose, pride, and the belief that I could create a better life.
As an adult, I went through some difficult seasons that pushed me to completely rebuild my life. Starting over taught me what strength really looks like and gave me a clear sense of purpose: to create something stable and meaningful for my family and for myself.
I began working in crisis counseling, and that experience changed me. It showed me what true resilience looks like and how much strength people can find even in their darkest moments. Eventually, I decided to take what I’d learned—both personally and professionally—and build something of my own. That’s when I founded my private practice, MindfulGarden, PLLC, where I specialize in helping people who are neurodivergent or healing from trauma.
Now I get to do work that I love – helping others feel seen, supported, and capable of growth – while creating a life that feels grounded and fulfilling.
If there’s one thing I hope people take from my story, it’s that it’s never too late to start again. You can come from difficult beginnings, face setbacks that would break most people, and still create something beautiful. My life is still unfolding—but for the first time, it truly feels like it’s beginning.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I think that’s what makes it meaningful.
I grew up with limited resources, which taught me to be resourceful, independent, and creative early on. I had to figure out how to keep moving forward, even when the odds weren’t in my favor – and that mindset has carried me through every stage of my life.
University was another lesson in persistence. I struggled academically for years without understanding why, and I had to take time off more than once. Later, I learned that I’m neurodivergent, and that knowledge helped me approach learning in a way that actually worked for me. But more than anything, it was my determination that got me through – I just refused to give up. I eventually earned both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and that’s something I’m really proud of.
Starting fresh as an adult came with its own challenges, but it also gave me the chance to rebuild my life with intention and purpose. Every setback has pushed me to grow, adapt, and redefine what success looks like for me.
It hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth it. Every obstacle taught me something I now use to help others do the same.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Mindful Garden, PLLC?
At Mindful Garden, PLLC, I provide person-centered, trauma-informed, and strengths-based therapy for individuals navigating neurodivergence, trauma, anxiety, and other mental health challenges. I specialize in working with clients on the autism spectrum, ADHD, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, and trauma-related concerns, using tools like CBT and DBT to build self-esteem, address negative self-talk, and change harmful behaviors.
What sets Mindful Garden apart is the deep care and commitment I bring to every client. I work to understand each person fully, affirming their unique experiences and helping them grow in a way that honors who they are. I’m proud of how the practice has grown and the transformations I witness every day – seeing clients become stronger, more self-aware, and empowered is the most rewarding part of my work.
The name “Mindful Garden” reflects my approach: just as a garden can grow and flourish when tended to thoughtfully, I believe our brains and behaviors can grow and change through mindful, intentional therapy. My goal is to provide a safe, validating space where clients feel understood, supported, and able to cultivate lasting growth.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I’ve been fortunate to have so many people who have shaped and supported me along the way. My professors and colleagues, both from college and my professional work, have offered guidance, encouragement, and inspiration. My children are a huge motivator – they’re the reason I strive to be my best every day.
Even in adulthood, I’ve had friends and mentors who believed in me and encouraged me to pursue my goals. From a young age, I benefited from teachers who truly cared, friends and their families who welcomed me into their homes, and organizations like the Boys and Girls Club that provided safe spaces to grow. I wouldn’t be where I am today without all of these advocates, cheerleaders, and guides who helped me keep going and believe in myself.
